Well i agree with deadwing and especially Ghostreveries here.
I'm very suprised  at the Wobbler choice , music is is ok but not original.
the singing really really awful. embarrissing really. If you have to have an album reminiscent
of the seventies then Glasshammer seems a (much) better choice.

Edit:
Since i posted my criticism above I have listened many times to the Wobbler album and actually it is a very good album. In fact vocals are only somewhat annoying  in the middle of Hinterland, for the rest they are acceptable. So it's worthy.  Also with the inclusionof Riverside there would have been only one symphonic prog album left in top 5.

For me it's simple,

Riverside - second life syndrome or
Opeth - Ghostreveries

And this is a really hard choice indeed ..

I totally agree! Pepper's Ghost was very dissapointing. Arena's worst album since 'Pride'!

Great choices - shame not to see Echolyn in there but good anyway.

Mars Volta should be number 1 spot for me and Porc Tree 2nd.  I'd swap Wobbler for Echolyn or you could make top 6!

I can't remember what I said
I lost my head.

I just remembered, (I know it's too late) but no Sieges Even on the list...

I have 4 of the 5 in the top 5 (no TMV yet) and nothing below 5 (unless I count Soft Machine, which isn't an original album... not sure what that's doing there really!).

Opeth's Ghost Reveries is the one I've listened to the most, but that's because it's in the car.  Porc. Tree's Deadwing... hmm, I need to give it some more listens, I like the album, but not sure how well I rate it yet.  VdGG... my favourite band, 2 outstanding tracks (Every Bloody Emperor and Nutter Alert), but I've not played it that often...  Wobbler - Hinterland, as somebody said, the vocals are a tad weak (the samples on their website are much better), but great synth prog!

I cannot comment on the others.

2006 is looking good though!

The Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra (a bit cheesy in places)
The Tangent - A Place In The Queue (album of the year by a mile!)

Looking forward to Tool's new one as well.

Just found this on Wobbler's website:

News!

Lars, March 11 2006

Merry christmas and a happy new year! And have a nice summer vacation in case we forget to update in time.. Some news is that we made top 5 (or was it top 3 or 6 in some places?) in several polls for album of the year, like at www.progarchives.com, gagliarchives.com and the Norwegian Scream magazine (www.screammagazine.com). The new songs we are rehearsing are very cool by the way. And in case we will forget; happy birthday, Sven Eriksen and Geir Larzen.

Nice to see we're appreciated!

I've changed my mind.

Then album of 2005 is Moon Safari - Doorway to Summer.

Actually, it comes behind VdGG - Present, but it's ahead of Wobbler, Opeth and Porc. Tree now.

Indeed it is, a much overlooked band and album, it's a shame it wasn't discovered earlier, otherwise it may have got some votes.

OK...The Dreams of Mean has eclipsed Believe for me.  It's far too good, creative, inspired and different from Pallas's past albums.

Nil - Novo Sub Sole should be included in the top 100 at least, and IMO also be in the top 20.

It seems that most people don't have access to the album and simply never heard of it. At least I don't have any idea where to get a copy.

Let's just hope that in the best of 2006 there will be more overshadowed genres on the list

I lloked over the net and found it either on their official wbsite or at SynPhonic (where I bought it).
