Topic: Progressive extreme metal... Posted: May 30 2005 at 22:02 |
Does anyone have any good suggestion on extreme progressive metal bands...
I'm thinking of such technical things as Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, and Psycroptic...if anyone here is into this type of thing.

I like that stuff too. Try Alarum, Quo Vadis , and Illogicist. Believe it or not even Cannibal Corpse get a little proggy at times.

Yeah...Cradle of Filth would be an excellent band if someone would get rid of Dani Filth.

Atheist - Piece of Time, Unquestionable Presence, Elements
Cynic - Focus
Death - Human, Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic, The Sound of Perseverance
Atheist is one of the most underrated bands. Technical death/jazz, highly recommended

If you like Cynic, give a listen to Sean Malone's Gordian Knot projects.

Well i personally think there's a huge difference between progression and technicality. Aside from what others have already mentioned...
For prog:
- Maudlin of the Well
- Ulver's early black metal stuff had prog touches i think, even if the production couldn't let you appreciate it fully
- Emperor
For technicality:
- Martyr
- Gorguts - Obscura (pretty progressive stuff here too actually)
