Maybe so, and I wouldn't necessarily disagree, but the point of this thread was that these 3 albums go together as a kind of little trilogy.

I've actually been thinking a bit more about this and I am tending to think that, for me at least,
TIME HONOURED GHOSTS belongs in this little group - stylistically it has the same elements and 'feel' as Octoberon. In fact, I have always thought of them as a pair! THG and XII seem to provide the book-ends for this phase of their career: THG is clearly a break from the style of 'Everyone .....'; while XII is equally clearly a transition towards the new AOR era, and the final straw that led to Woolly leaving.

Since writing my first post I have listened to Octoberon and am currently listening to XII - forgot just how good they were then .....

Regards

And it is the last time Woolly made a really significant impact on their sound, and he was the proggiest out of the 4 of them. Think I'll have a listen to it again right now . . . . . . .

Yeah you're right. They were also the last good albums before they headed off into their post-Woolly post-any-remaining-semblence-of-prog 80s descent into AOR mediocrity and short-lived commercial success (at least in Europe).

XII is a nice flowing album and perhaps 4 outstanding tracks. Gone To Earth is often heralded as their best album, but I find the song structures are too formulaic, though Hymn is an all-time classic.

I probably favour Octoberon - track after brilliant track, except for the last - Suicide? - I have never got to grips with it

'Octoberon' is probably my favourite alongside 'Once Again' and 'Gone To Earth', yet 'Octoberon' just edges it for having some of their best songs imo- 'Ra', 'The World Goes On', 'Suicide'...
