Where did the moody blues come from ? Since their first album was made in 1965 they must be the first to make prog.

All the Moodys except for Justin Hayward came from around Birmingham, right where I live. The inside cover picture in "In Search of the Lost Chord" shows the five of them standing in Cannon Hill Park which is just a couple of miles from me. I've been trying to locate the exact spot where they were standing at the time, as the park has changed a bit since 1968!

Also, the cover picture for Led Zeppelin IV (arguably the most famous cover photo in the world) was taken somewhere around Aston, just North of the centre of Birmingham. That's changed a bit too since then (they were knocking some old slum estates down at the time the photo was taken in 1972)

There are probably plenty more but these are the only ones I know about. Nick Mason of Pink Floyd is a "Brummie" too.

it is and sorry for the attempt at humor.    At least he didn't thrown rotten vegatables at me.  I've had a few times that things have been thrown in my direction.  I remember one time a an amateur comedy night at a bar years ago... cracked a joke about this guy's girlfriend/wife... had a beer bottle thrown at me hahahhah.. good times....  Anyway... back to topic.....

Yes, and the Moodies own the small CD shop named Threshold on the High Street in Cobham.

Remember Sally James from the TV programme Tiswas? She owns the childrens outfitters down the other end of the High Street.

the true "home of prog" is not a "stately mansion" anywhere near Birmingham at all, in reality it is probably a misty cottage in deepest snowdonia or a grubby office in Denmark Street.

Used to drive passed it and  could see several of the Moodies gold discs through the window of the upper floor office.

Ed Macan claimed in Rocking The Classics, that prog wasa phenomonon of the home countries of England (i.e. the S.E.). He was wrong from one aspect of the original home towns of British prog musicians, but right about where the more successful ones ended up - i.e where property was a most profitable investment.
