Well, it's obviously very subjective, as I feel many of the bands
listed in this thread get plenty of attention, at least among Prog fans.
For myself, I'd say:
- Conrad Schnitzler
- Manuel Gottsching
- All Moebius and Roedelius related projects
- Elton Dean's solo material and with group
- Kevin Ayers
- Ian Carr and Nucleus
- Snakefinger
- Fred Frith
- Renaldo and the Loaf
- Tuxedomoon
- Embryo
- Michael Rother solo
- La Dusseldorf
- All Hopper related projects
- All Keith Tippett related projects (minus his work with KC of course)
- This Heat
- Soft Heap
- Slapp Happy
- Adelbert von Deyen
- Neil Ardley
- Third Ear Band

KINO is one band that should get a lot more attention in the media ..
and the american rock band Coheed and Cambria who sound like a modern RUSH

Rush is in a different league than Coheed. Coheed reminds me more of
Taking Back Sunday with metal guitars and a concept album lyric style.
