Were/are you obsessed with a certain "sound"?... as I recall, when I was young (er ), I spent a lot of time hunting every ELP-like band... from that, I wnet striaight to a maniac quest for every band wich sound were somehow near to Jean-Luc Ponty's (you know, kind of Jazzy, kind of Synth, Unusual chords and, of course, a very fast repetitive Bass line, such us the one you can also find on BrandX's "Unorthodox behaviour", first tune)...

Now, back to you...

I am rather obsessed with certain bands/artists. If some album impresses me, I begin to search for other albums of the given band, bio, information in the web, even books if it's possible. It makes listening to music more interesting.

I still am quite obsessed with the classic symphonic prog sound. Anything awash with Mellotron is good for a start!

I'm trying to move away from that a little, as I know there is so much music that passed me by years ago, that I should hear now. Buying a Mars Volta album recently was a big step for me!

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I really get obsessed with certain riffs, or parts of songs.

- I get a shiver up my spine everytime I hear that one riff in In the Name of God by DT (10:03 onwards)
- The first bits of Lightning Strikes by Yes. Actually, the whole song.
- 4:19 - 5:00 in Peruvian Skies, DT.
- The start of The King of Terrors by Symphony X
- 1:57 onwards in Quote Unquote by Mr. Bungle.
- The heavy chorus bit in Open Mind by Blackfield.
- the Medicate Me section of Octavarium, that is the coolest bassline ever written.

Just certain bits of songs really catch me. Then I have to learn them on my bass haha.

BL~

When my dad introduced me to Dark Side of the Moon I was obsessed with getting every Pink Floyd album.  I'm sure he was happy.

I am and always have been obsessed with music that sounds like Pink Floyd's Us and Them, and Porcupine Tree's Sleep of No Dreaming. And also things that don't make sense to be jazzy but they are. And things that are spacey, but not extremely slow or quiet.

I love fusion.

I also love Rush's late 70's-early 80's sound, especially Lifeson's guitar tone, and the light yet purposeful synthesizer.

I also like the Wakeman era Yes sound that is like a mixture of classical and jazz.

I am obsessed with Pierre Moerlen's drumming and Steve Hackett's guitar sound.  I am also obsessed with the "blue atmosphere" sound in Echoes.
