 Topic: Sennheiser HD 435 headphones

 To buy or not to buy? Does anyone know how they sound? I'm looking for decent headphones at a reasonable price to replace my Philips earbuds.

Have you settled on the HD 435? I have just bought Sennheiser PXC 250 for my MP3 player, to replace my Sony Fontopia earbuds that were annoying me (because of the very short cable length to the left ear, not so much the sound quality) and because I wanted noise cancellation for travelling.
The PXC 250 has active noise cancellation for trains, planes, cars etc. and works really well. When not in a noisy environment one can switch off the active noise cancellation and just hear the signal directly from the player. These headphones are certainly more than good enough to use on a home stereo system or PC too.
The sound quality of the PXC 250 is very good indeed -- much better than my Sony Fontopia MDR-EX71SLB earphones (which now cost around EUR 50 on Amazon.uk). The Sennheiser PXC 250 are very comfortable, light, compact and foldable. The latter is also important to me.
I bought my PXC 250 headphones via eBay for EUR 84.80 (included registered p&p and insurance) from a UK retailer. Amazon UK lists these headphones for EUR 108.96 so buying via eBay saved me a lot.
Recommended.

^Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take the PXC 250 to consideration, but I'm not sure if the noise cancellation feature is
that essential for me and the PXC 250 cost around 130€ here in Finland, so I'll probably go with a bit cheaper model without noise cancellation.

Maybe the PX100 is better cause it has NOT the noise compensation system. The PX100 is a very good walkman
headphone for 30€.
On another hand, big Sennheiser hearphones such as the HD595/HD600 is an absolute must have for the price.

^The PX 100 would probably be better for me than the more expensive PXC 250. Actually I'd prefer big headphones like the HD600, it's just that I can't afford them, and that's why I was wondering if the HD 435 are any good.

I'm no headphone expert, but I really have my eyes on the Grado SR 60s. They have been getting some really nice reviews and are quite cheap.
I'm sure those Sennheisers are great though. I only have $20 headphones from them and they're quite good for the price!

Ah, excellent post guys, I too am looking for some new 'phones. I have the same issues as Fitzcarraldo, re: the left earphone's cable is too short on the headphones that came with my mobile phone. I therefore need some new ones. I am thinking earbuds, but I also think big ones will be good too, as I really don't go out with headphones on, so I don't need them in public. I also want some reasonably cheap ones, no more than about £20 really.
I think those Sennheiser's may do the trick, so thanks for the tip Fitzcarraldo.
Mike, how much do the Grado SR 60s retail at?

Ah, thank you Oliver, they sound perfect, I just need to find some now! I'll have a wander into my electrical store sometime and see if they have any, I know they sell headphones, so I hope they have some in there.
Oh and I presume they have the small jackplug, because that's what I want.

Yes, 3.5mm walkman jack.
They put a "race" cable on it, and replacment parts are also available. Widely available at low price through Internet.

I wouldn't go with earbuds if I were you, they don't sound as good (well, generally, depending on the model) and are more damaging to the ears. Here's a cool article on those Grados (makes me really want a pair!): http://stereophile.com/headphones/532/ They're $69 here, not really sure how much that is over there, but $69 is about the price of 5-7 new CDs. The SR80s are a little more (around $95) and, from what I hear, are pretty much the same as the cheaper model.

My mobile phone earbuds are strange, they have rubber gromits that go in the ears, they shield out a lot of the sound actually. Never had them before, I'm used to the ones that always fall out!
Yes, I shall have a look and see what's about, I don't want to spend to much, because as you said, I could be buying CDs!
But it does mean I can listen to music in the wee hours of the morning when my folks are in bed and I won't disturb them (unless I'm playing VdGG, 'cause I find it very difficult not to sing along!). It also means I can play computer games with sound on too. This is going to be cool!
