Dream Theater’s Dark Side Released

I thought I would mention that Dream Theater recently released their live
CD/DVD where they cover Dark Side of the Moon at the April 1st 20th
Anniversary show (I'm not sure if the CD is released to the public yet,
though I know they said it was limited edition.) I purchased the CD only
but I just wanted to show the track listing to show how they covered
much more than just Dark Side. It's a 2-disc live album where the first
disc is from one show where they only covered Dark Side of the Moon.
The second disc contains various Floyd covers that the band has done
throughout the years.

Disc Two:

Of course we will all be sticking to the original. I just think it's interesting to
hear a band like Dream Theater that sounds (pretty much) NOTHING like
Pink Floyd plays some of their songs. I also thought it was cool that they
added extras (echoes and sheep being the ones that caught my eye the
most.)

As Portnoy puts it "As much as all 5 of us have been influenced by Floyd
stylistically, Pink Floyd may very well be the polar opposite of what Dream
Theater has become known for. We are generally known for over-the-top
shredding, speed, dexterity and general musical acrobatics. Wheras Pink
Floyd was always about the complete opposite side of the spectrum: mood,
dynamics, slow & patient playing and much that breathes... it was never
about the individual musicians, but more about the collective atmosphere."

mm I don't want to get my expectations too high.. lately DT has disappointed way too many. I'll make sure to check it out, though

Hmmmmm..... Like? Yes; influenced by? Not sure...

I'd certainly be interested in hearing this; their occasional nods toward Floyd have in the past been well done, so I'm intrigued as to whether they can pull off the entire DSOTM; I think a great deal of restraint would be required on the part of John Petrucci & (especially) Mike Portnoy.

SORRY GUYS BUT NOTHING IS BETTER THAT THE ORIGINAL IMO

I've heard a (very crapy) bootleg of the Lndon performance and though the sound qualaty was rubbish it was well done by DT.

I kinda like their covers.

Esp. The Number of The Beast-- James' voice is awesome!

I belive it can be interesting to hear what DT makes out of the Floyd covers. They'we been doing a few good one's in the past. But only a few.

It's not about trying to be as good as the orignal, it's about playing  your influences and inspirations with fans considered as honoring a great band. It's not like they are trying to say "look, we played DSOTM, we are better than pink floyd"
