 Topic: How does hackett play Horizons???

The first few notes, does he stretch his whole hand over using his pinky and index finger from the 7th to 12th fret?
can anyone else do this??? Im new to guitar so, i have no clue

The first notes of Horizons are harmonics: the guitar player plays each note usually with the thumb or with the pick-up while touching the octave of the note with the index finger. It's a standard technique.

And what a coincidence, by the way! Several minutes ago I was watching Hackett playing Horizons in the "Guitar Wars" DVD!!

Yes, Hrmonics, only that here we know that technique as "fake harmonics", because those are not the harmonics that comes from loose strings...

exactly, Im trying to play it but there are bits and pieces that I still don't quite do right

In my opinion these notes are 'flageolets' (played on the 7th and 12th string), it's a very classical based.

Let's see: As cuncuna says, these are not the typical harmonics you get from loose strings just slightly touching the octave (12 frets upper the note). It's the same sound but you have to push the notes with the left hand, while with the index finger of the right hand you touch slightly the octave (12 frets upper each note), and at the same time you must play the string with the pick-up or using another finger of the left hand.
I hope this is enough clear, sorry for my English if it's not.
