OLDFIELD, MIKE "Tubular Bells"
5 stars by MANDRAKEROOT
CLASSIC MUSIC!

To listen to "Tubular Bells" puts some questions. In fact this is not Rock music, but Classic Music. Besides even if after a lot of listening we did not decipher the musical genre not not we can recognize that "Tubular Bells" is however big music. I am carried to believe that the previous experiences of Mike have had a very high weight to make to be born this masterpiece, even if today is not then that is so present. Here, it is not surpassed, the concept stays valid, but I believe that no today would have been dreamt to compose a like disc. To the period itself and this is its large merit.

I concludesay that this CD should be introduced this CD in the Classic Music and not in Rock Music. Only so it appreciates this attractive music.

For always yours, Mandrakeroot.

Andrew, this particular week, due to the changes in the site, I'm only collecting/noting the weak reviews but I'm not dealing with them.

Let's wait 2-3 days more to make the deals. But in the meantime, thanks!

Two reviews of CTTE:

YES "Close to the Edge"
by Lody
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Close To The Edge was a very masterpieces by supergroup YES. With its 18-minutes title track, that was awesome! The other side was really great wave too.

CLOSE TO THE EDGE > rate: 5/5 a. The Solid Time Of Change > 5/5 b. Total Mass Retain 5/5 c. I Get Up, I Get Down 4.5/5 d. Seasons of Man 5/5

AND YOU AND I > rate 4.8/5 a. Cord Of Life 4.5/5 b. Eclipse 4/5 c. The Preacher The Teacher 5/5 d. Apocalypse 5/5

SIBERIAN KHATRU > rate: 5/5

Album overall: 10/5 (that was a joke, I mean, this was a very perfect works)

He gives rates to the songs but doesn't justify them at all!

YES "Close to the Edge"
by eduur
Not as good as the follow-up TFTO, but since that one is my all time favorite this one easily gets five stars. Saw them about ten times in concert, and AYAI is one of the most amazing songs ever (goozebumps every time...) Then the killer Siberian Khatru and CTTE itself, there's no need for more to gain the 5 star rating!

Not too informative also .
"Music is much like f**king, but some composers can't climax and others climax too often, leaving themselves and the listener jaded and spent."

HUH?  What does it mean?  "The office that have..."?  What?  And who is Huriah Heep?

GRAVY TRAIN Staircase to the Day progressive rock album and reviews Art Rock

GRAVY TRAIN "Staircase to the Day"
5 stars by MANDRAKEROOT

PRE NWOBHM!

Ok, how much am about to say it will be not serious... But in this album I have heard a lot of elements of the first album of the Judas Priest and of the debut of the Saxon... Sow misery!

If "Starbright Starlight" is very radiophonic and the production in general is very light, with the songs that do not show, therefore, the office that have, is actual the Folk Blues Ballad "Staircase To The Day" to have that feeling that I found alone in the discs of the Camel ("Snow Goose" on everything!) is a really sole piece! (P.s.: like also "Everything Of My Life"). Then it is all Blues Prog a lot thrown off balance in key Prog and with guitars, pianos and flute very sweet, until the conclusive Hard Blues "Busted In Schenectady" true beginning of the NWOBHM more soft, thanks to an expert work of fusion between the Huriah Heep more Prog sound and the more gotten angry delta blues atmospheres.

Here, if loved to research the origins this is the disc that does for you.

For always yours, Mandrakeroot.

Here's another one that I just don't get.

STEAMHAMMER Mountains progressive rock album and reviews Art Rock

STEAMHAMMER "Mountains"
2 stars by MANDRAKEROOT
CALMED!

The Steamhammer are at my warning a group a lot more capable to do Blues that Prog. And this CD too much hears itself.

In fact the music is good alone for the first three tracks: "I Wouldn't Have Thought", "Riding On The Lan" and "Hold That train" (Between the other united and live!) that are excellent Blues (but the first is more Art Rock). Then almost more nothing. Their Prog plays in my head like a Proto Prog out of focus. Nothing of memorable. Good alone for fans of the group and of Kieran White that writes also well, but that does not leave the mark. Erred...

To the fine one I would not know actual to who to advise this CD...

For always yours, Mandrakeroot.

Oh, BTW, guys...whoever re-did the review section (adding on our real names)...that's class.  I like it.

COLOSSEUM Colosseum Lives progressive rock album and reviews Jazz Rock/Fusion

COLOSSEUM "Colosseum Lives"
5 stars by bsurmano (Berislav Surmanovic)

In a few and simple words - this is a must have not only for Colosseum fans, but for all those who enjoy in jazz-rock magic. The first part of this DVD contains120 minutes of pure musical delight bringing good old tunes played in such a superb manner that you could easily get to a conclusion that something is wrong with this DVD cover showing photos of some aged gentlemen. But the ecstasy is coming in the second DVD part which is a documentary of Colosseum's golden era (now almost 35 years ago) covering all relevant moments in this band's life. I bought this DVD two years ago and I sincerely admit that I'm spinning it regularly few times a year, enjoying in every moment.

I think I pointed this out a while back, but it was never deleted or anything so maybe it was missed.

This review really tells nothing about the album or the music on it, or what the reviewer likes/dislikes it:

TOOL Lateralus
3 stars
by Man With Hat

I was dissapointed.I expected more out of this album. Dont get me wrong its a decent album but i thought it could be so much better. The best songs are The title track and the last one. Its not the worst album ever. But there are much better out there in trems of prog.

Also, this one, IMO, should be deleted because most of the review is spent insulting the fans by calling them whiney teenagers and non-progressive children, calling the band non-progressive, and reviewing it based on it being "atheist" and "anti-religion" (even though nothing on the album has anything to do with religion).

TOOL Lateralus
1 stars
by The Ryan (Ryan)

It seems like everyone here is a FIVE-star kinda' guy or a ONE/TWO-star kinda' guy. Let me tell you why. 'Complex time signatures' and 'soundscapes', don't make a band 'progressive.' Lots of genres have those two, so? You can think tool is progressive rock all you want, but you're just sucked in by that bald man's unusual not-so-sexy voice which just so happens to be rare. People seem to think as long as they like a metal band, they are progressive metal now. Tool is unique, but not progressively unique, different does not equal progressive. Other than the drummer, I find the music useless and overly atheist (Nothing against atheist beliefs). It's the same story every song, it's the same story every album. There is no evolution from one album after the next. It seems once Tool hit Aenima, that was the peak (Not that I liked Aenima either way). I feel bad for the drummer, he has to put up with a dull bass player and an even more dull guitar player who just so happens to make every 'progressive metal' song sound like an ordinary modern metal song. Even if this were progressive I might only give it two or three stars. To tell you the truth I was bored with tool after three or four listens from each of their albums. I would much rather listen to Dream Theater (regardless of how progressive DT is now). There's not a lot I can do about how boring this band is, how anti-religion Maynard is, or about all the wasted time (In my opinion) all the whiney teenagers have spent listening to this group. But I suppose it's perspective everyone, whatever makes you all happy - go for it, I guess? But for me, I can't stand by and listen to the same song from one track to the next over and over again. It's a matter of lack of style (Once again, my opinion), I feel as if one song never ends, and their whole career is just that, one song. A group with a progressive style would mean from one album to the next there's new things to offer (Every Tool album seems to be a clone of the past one, just put in with a different mixture of chords and atheist/angsty lyrics, which he probably writes in his sleep). A progressive band in our modern day, for example, could be "The Flower Kings", every song is almost like a subgenre on "Space Revolver." It was an experience, The only song I remotely liked on "Lateralus" was "Parabola." And I still feel as if I've wasted my time, arguing against irrational non- progressive children on a website designed for people who enjoy progressive rock/metal/etc.

ACUITY Skyward
5 stars by emersontarkus23 (Taylor Styes)
I have never heard this album as of yet....but I would like to, because one of the members of this band, Bradley Styes, is my cousin! I never knew his band was on progarchives.com! I definitely need to check out this album! I'm giving it five stars just because Brad has pursued his dreams long enough. Good job, man!

GENESIS Calling All Stations
1 stars
by The Owl (Phil McKenna)

[Prog Reviewer ]

Why did they even bother?

Funny thing is, Ray Wilson actually has a good voice, but it would've been better utilized elsewhere. The songs are so generic and uninspired, not mention quite forgettable.

Pass

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS VERY SHORT REVIEW???

IT DOESN'T TALKS ENOUGH ABOUT THE ALBUM.

ANDREW.

MANIC DEPRESSION!

I did not understood the reason of this Tribute Album. Actual no there I succeed! Useless, cold, calculator... An album for does spend money and other nothing!

Nevertheless resonable they are the version of "I Can See For Miles", "I Don't Need No Doctor", "A Salty Dog", "Manic Depression" and "Wishing Well" that do not suffice to make off an album however useless. And here I close.

I do not words.

For always yours, Mandrakeroot.
