HUH? What does it mean? "The office that have..."? What? And who is Huriah Heep? GRAVY TRAIN "Staircase to the Day" PRE NWOBHM!
Ok, how much am about to say it will be not serious... But in this album I have heard a lot of elements of the first album of the Judas Priest and of the debut of the Saxon... Sow misery! If "Starbright Starlight" is very radiophonic and the production in general is very light, with the songs that do not show, therefore, the office that have, is actual the Folk Blues Ballad "Staircase To The Day" to have that feeling that I found alone in the discs of the Camel ("Snow Goose" on everything!) is a really sole piece! (P.s.: like also "Everything Of My Life"). Then it is all Blues Prog a lot thrown off balance in key Prog and with guitars, pianos and flute very sweet, until the conclusive Hard Blues "Busted In Schenectady" true beginning of the NWOBHM more soft, thanks to an expert work of fusion between the Huriah Heep more Prog sound and the more gotten angry delta blues atmospheres. Here, if loved to research the origins this is the disc that does for you. For always yours, Mandrakeroot. Here's another one that I just don't get.
STEAMHAMMER "Mountains" by MANDRAKEROOT CALMED!
The Steamhammer are at my warning a group a lot more capable to do Blues that Prog. And this CD too much hears itself. In fact the music is good alone for the first three tracks: "I Wouldn't Have Thought", "Riding On The Lan" and "Hold That train" (Between the other united and live!) that are excellent Blues (but the first is more Art Rock). Then almost more nothing. Their Prog plays in my head like a Proto Prog out of focus. Nothing of memorable. Good alone for fans of the group and of Kieran White that writes also well, but that does not leave the mark. Erred... To the fine one I would not know actual to who to advise this CD... For always yours, Mandrakeroot. Oh, BTW, guys...whoever re-did the review section (adding on our real names)...that's class. I like it. Edited by sbrushfan |

Two reviews of CTTE:
YES "Close to the Edge" by Lody EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Close To The Edge was a very masterpieces by supergroup YES. With its 18-minutes title track, that was awesome! The other side was really great wave too. CLOSE TO THE EDGE > rate: 5/5 a. The Solid Time Of Change > 5/5 b. Total Mass Retain 5/5 c. I Get Up, I Get Down 4.5/5 d. Seasons of Man 5/5 AND YOU AND I > rate 4.8/5 a. Cord Of Life 4.5/5 b. Eclipse 4/5 c. The Preacher The Teacher 5/5 d. Apocalypse 5/5 SIBERIAN KHATRU > rate: 5/5 Album overall: 10/5 (that was a joke, I mean, this was a very perfect works) He gives rates to the songs but doesn't justify them at all! YES "Close to the Edge" by eduur Not as good as the follow-up TFTO, but since that one is my all time favorite this one easily gets five stars. Saw them about ten times in concert, and AYAI is one of the most amazing songs ever (goozebumps every time...) Then the killer Siberian Khatru and CTTE itself, there's no need for more to gain the 5 star rating! Not too informative also . |

Andrew, this particular week, due to the changes in the site, I'm only collecting/noting the weak reviews but I'm not dealing with them. Let's wait 2-3 days more to make the deals. But in the meantime, thanks! |

OLDFIELD, MIKE "Tubular Bells"
by MANDRAKEROOT CLASSIC MUSIC!
To listen to "Tubular Bells" puts some questions. In fact this is not Rock music, but Classic Music. Besides even if after a lot of listening we did not decipher the musical genre not not we can recognize that "Tubular Bells" is however big music. I am carried to believe that the previous experiences of Mike have had a very high weight to make to be born this masterpiece, even if today is not then that is so present. Here, it is not surpassed, the concept stays valid, but I believe that no today would have been dreamt to compose a like disc. To the period itself and this is its large merit. I concludesay that this CD should be introduced this CD in the Classic Music and not in Rock Music. Only so it appreciates this attractive music. For always yours, Mandrakeroot.

BEATLES, THE "Please Please Me"
by M Joel This album is not progressive in any way. The Beatles only started moving toward that vein of songwriting once "Help" and "Rubber Soul" came out, in my opinion. Before that, they were just typical pop stars. I'm not saying it's a bad album, it's just not progressive, and features pre-drug Beatles that had much more naive views on the world, and wrote love songs out the ass. It's The Beatles first album, that's all. Nothing great about it other than the genious that was always there from the beggining, but did not begin to truly take shape until the drugs were introduced to their lives. That's the honest truth.

KING CRIMSON "The Power To Believe"
by MANDRAKEROOT ELECTRONIC METAL?
How could it be defined this album? It it is an album Prog, Metal or thing? It it is not Metal, but it is not even Prog! In fact musucally we are to a mix between Electronic, Symphonic and Metal, not easy and immediate. I would dare to say difficult. I listened to this CD at least 20 times and I did not succeed still to understand where begins and where ends. Certainly there are songs like "Eyes Wide Open" that send again also too much to the 70's, but the big problem is that this CD wants to go to write new resonant pages. And I do not know until that I push good. Erred, because it has been not not even an ugly CD. But it deserved to go out least 30 years does. And if done not love the novelty is better to leave lose it. For always yours, Mandrakeroot.
Do you understand this review???

STRIDE "Imagine"
by progarchiver Yes this is one of the best prog albums in 2005. Stride is a band with very specific optimistic atmosphere and the excellent songwriting.
When I listen to this album I have a big adrenaline level in very positive way. I think that one of the best elements on the album are the vocal parts which are very persuasive... Yes I like this band very much and looking forward for the next album, hope will bevery soon plus a bit better production please...
And this review??? |

Please don't report duplicate reviews for the time being. They are probably not duplicates, just a bug in the changes M@X has been making to the site. Just to clarify too, the rules (i.e. guidelines) are not being changed at this time, just the procedure for posting reviews. |

Not an inappropriate review, but I found that dagrush accidentally posted two reviews for Tool's AEnima. TOOL Ænima This could've been a five star album, but is instead hurt by excessive filler. Still their best, though.
Stinkfist - One of the best singles of the 90's, it's definitely a good one. I wish it was longer, though. 10/10. Eulogy - Much like the previous song, this should be a 10/10 song. Unlike the previous song, this has two minutes of near filler to kick it off. It's not terrible, but the song would be much better if it wasn't there. 8/10. H - Much like Stinkfist, a nice rocker. The album's opening trio is a good one. 9/10. Useful idiot - Like wasting time? This is the track for you. 1/10. 46 and 2 - H's cousin, another nice rocker. Not quite as nice, though. No word on where the prog went, though. 7/10. Message to Harry Manback - More time to waste? Once again, the track for you. Oh, Tool, I wish you wouldn't hurt your fans so. 1/10. Hooker with a penis - Most of Tool's lyrics are between bad and terrible. This is one shining exception. Still no word on where the prog went. 8/10. Intermission - The first short "song" that isn't actually filler. Essentially an intro to Jimmy, this is a nice little track that attempts to keep the mood like in the midst of all these songs about sodomy, L. Ron Hubbard, heroin and selling out. 8/10. Jimmy - H and 46 and 2's other cousin... and what do you know? Still just straight ahead rock. 7/10. Die eier von Satan - It's half filler, half rocker, mostly a waste. No point in further analysis, there's plenty of that going on elsewhere. 5/10. Pu[&*!#] - Ah, there's the prog. The second most progressive song on the album is a very good one. Not the best, but right up there. I prefer the version on Salival, though. 9/10. Cesaro summability - So we're at four fillers, but only one of them good. Yuck. 1/10. Ænema - At first, this was my favourite song on the album. Now, I don't feel quite as strongly, but it's still quite good. 8/10. Ions - And the fifth and final filler. Fifteen songs, five fillers. Boy, these guys know how to put together a cohesive album, don't they? 1/10. Third eye - Oddly enough, they saved the best for last. I believe this is the best song Tool has ever done and is an easy ace. 10/10. There are numerous good songs on here. Unfortunately, 1/3 of the album's tracks are fillers. So I can't give it a perfect rating. But it's still an easy four. Posted Friday, December 02, 2005, 20:37 EST | Permanent link
edit - also, I just found this really short one which doesn't really tell anything about the album: TOOL Lateralus I was dissapointed.I expected more out of this album. Dont get me wrong its a decent album but i thought it could be so much better. The best songs are The title track and the last one. Its not the worst album ever. But there are much better out there in trems of prog.

What has specifically changed regarding the reviews? I've noticed that now you have to login in order to review, which is a good idea since most trolls would go away instead of wasting even more of their useless time. I was even joyful for a while, since it gave me a whole menu of reviews and even a profile, but then I realized it's a collaborator only thing. Isn't it? Anyway, there are more good sides for me. Now at least I will be sure nobody in my family will rate the same albums I am planning to review. Wait, actually, do you need to register to rate, not review, too? -- Ivan |

He is not the first (and probably not the last) to rate highly an album due to a single song. |
