I'm sure this question was asked before, but I'm sure I'll get these guys added. I mean, they have alll the elements of a prog band!

I don't agree at all with the fact that Led Zeppelin have all the elements of a prog band. They are just one of the best rock band ever without being prog.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

I believe that they should be added as prog related, if Deep Purple are here....

By the way, I think Zeppelin is amazing. Probably my favorite band.

Setting aside whether or not they should be added here, for a sec.

Does it really matter if they are prog, or not?. Does it affect your enjoyment of listening to Led Zep's music?.

Yes... they only lack prog musicians and prog music! Stern Smile

Zep are killer classic blues-based hard rock. Cool

(Thus, no doubt, fated to be added as "prog related" -- or some-such wishy-washy would-be category....) Confused

Definately Prog Related. If Queen and Deep Purple are, so is Zep.

They have some prog elements, the prog-related category is good for Zeppelin.

LED ZEPPELIN is an hard-rock, folk/blues band, one of my favourites, but not prog or prog-related!!!

As i said above, DEEP PURPLE are classified as prog-related because they released four prog albums at the beginning of their career. With "Deep Purple In Rock" (1970) they changed their style into hard-rock.

Talking of Led Zep, this link has come up in an ad at the top of the page.

You're right about the Rain Song, but one song doesn't make them a prog band.

This has as much credence as the Monkees thread... Least those posting there know it is tongue-in-cheek.

Incredible how many progheads still have problems with regarding Led Zeppelin as at least a prog-related band. OK, they produced a lot of blues/hardrock-oriented songs/albums but they also produced very adventurous/eclectic music by blending folk, rock, blues and symphonic rock. If I watch the second DVD of their 2-DVD set (How The West Was Won?), I am every time stunned by the excellent progressive ideas, from Bron Yr Aur Stomp, Trampled Underfoot and Stairway To Heaven to In The Evening and Kashmir !

I am afraid that discussions about additions from bands have become too subjective, that's obviously the case with Led Zeppelin and The Doors because it's, in my opinion, ridiculous to call these bands just blues/rock based bands, this does unjustice to their prolific progressive efforts. It's also ridiculous that The Doors and Led Zeppelin are still not added and still furiously attacked by progheads while every day we can read reviews about Queen, ELO, The Beatles ... In my opinion we should be a more consequent site because at this moment it's a bit messy with all those vague art-rock, prog-related and proto-prog bands that are not even half as progressive as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Santana, Jefferson Airplane and Love!
