I was listening to Back in NYC, and someone complained about Gabriel's voice.
Once I gave someone a prog education, and I started playing CTTE and Tarkus, and she said "I thought prog was a modern genre."

Oh yeah, I just remembered another great one!
I asked someone if she liked prog rock and she said:
"You mean music from Czechoslovakia?" (Prague rock!)

18 year old kid I play basketball with, after listening to Tom Sawyer by Rush for all of 30 seconds:

"Don't you listen to any rap?"

With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D. and you still have the frog you started with.

Usually I just get a "What is this?" from people I know. Some stuff I listen to that isn't even Prog gets these remarks.

"Yea, its good but has solos so it has classic rock influenced, so its still classic rock."  upon listening to "Trains" by Porcupine Tree

This comment makes little sense and is wrong on so many levels i simply ignored it.

This is the absolute truth, maybe it should be on 'Believe it or not'.

30 years ago I was with a friend of mine who bought Yes: Tales of topographic Oceans.
We went back to his place and played Side 1; Revealing Science of God.
We absolutely loved it. I said to him I thought it was amazing but it was rather short.
He agreed. He looked at his turntable. We had listened to the whole first side at 45rpm!
It actually sounded OK at that speed. Then we played it at 33rpm and the rest was history.
But what a bizarre way to get into Yes.

Oh yeah THE REMARK.
Before we realized we'd listened to it at the wrong speed my friend said "I know Jon Anderson has a high voice but that's ridiculous".

I usually not share my music with other people because I imagine how they would react. But here are several remarks that I have received:
- "What a sh*t" after playing the beginning of Transatlantic "SMPTe"
- "What do you listen to?" Jethro Tull
- "They don't sing at all" after 30 seconds of instrumental play, then later "But it's the same melody all the time" about the Banks' piano play right before the famous powerful entrance of organs (both in Firth Of Fifth by Genesis)

You still have made a choice
