Thanks to Wigu Jumbo, the Norwegian progressive goup Ulver has been re-categorised from Progressive Metal to Experimental/Post-Rock, where they were supposed to belong from the start.

Sounds like a good idea to start reviewing their post-Nattens Madrigal stuff now.

In fact Ulver is one of those bands/artists who can't be classified under one specific genre. Their every album was completely different from the previous one. Therefore, I think, it would be better to classify albums instead of artists (has it been discussed already?).

I think that it is planned for the new version of the archives ...

But I already implemented it on my website.

I think what is planned is multiple subgenres for bands, but not one for each album.

^ we'll have to wait and see what M@x will do.

But incidentally: I'll expand the rating mechanism on my website even further ... that will in essence make it possible to assign multiple genres even to albums.

Multiple genres on each album not artist is a good idea, but loads of work will be involved to get to that stage, this will work well for bands like Kraftwerk, King Crimson and Tangerine Dream as they have used multiple genres.

But poppy albums like GENESIS - Invisible Touch for example will be a problem, would would they be labelled as!!

On my website you simply assign a base genre to an album (like for example "Rock", "Metal", "Pop" ... or even more specialized genres like "Canterbury" or "Thrash Metal"). Then you rate the individual tracks for general rating, progressiveness, experimentality and technicality. Then you can also rate the album for other attributes like quirkyness, aggressivity, creativity, ...

And as a result the system calculates a descriptive genre name for each album.

Seriously: I will simplify the display of the genre info. The above is all the info that is available from the statistics, with the rating from 1-10 for the attributes mapped to labels like "Slightly", "Moderately", "Very" etc..

BTW: I don't think that this would work in the archives. And it doesn't have to ...

The prog metal team discussed and approved this move weeks ago.

The only reason they weren't moved sooner is because WJ was sick.

Oh, that explains it. I remember bugging you all about it on numerous occasion but to no avail, so I decided to PM Wigu myself - and he replied in just a couple of hours!
