 Topic: Dream Theater vs Spock´s Beard

Both bands have released eight studio albums. Although the musicians of Dream Theater are incredible I think the song writing and vocals of Spock´s Beard sway my vote in favour of Spock´s Beard.
So who is it for you?

It's unfair to compare these two bands.

You´re right Progtologist, I guess one is Prog Metal and it is unfair to compare.
But I just want to get a feel of their popularity seeing as though they are both on their 8th album.

I'd have to agree with Jody, it's unfair to compare these two bands. If I had to compare them, I would have to give the advantage to Dream Theater. They have the technical element that Spock's Beard just doesn't deliver. They also show their ability to keep up with writing epics like A Change of Seasons, Octavarium, and of course Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

Throw out that technical ability and say DT is also more original.

Spock's with Neal Morse = a good band
Spock's without Neal Morse = a mediocre band
Dream Theater = the greatest band!

Dream Theater by far! I like Spock's Beard they are a good band but DT are technically far superior to Spock's Beard.

Musically different, but Dream Theater is better.
They write far better epics IMHO.

They are infact not TOTALLY different they are both very fond of mixing more commercial pop music with progressive elements...and yes spocks beard can sound pretty heavy too sometimes!

Great comparing I'd also add The Flower Kings to the poll - because they're all more than inspired by 70s progrock.Maybe they have no direct plagiatrism moments,but I always have a deja-vu listening to any of that three bands.I like DT,but TFK and SB have dissappointed me.Both worth only 3 stars,IMHO,and that should be their highest rating

Dream Theater.
I like Spocks Beard but only V has made me stand up and take notice, the preceding three albums werent verly special IMO, but I've yet to hear The Light and Snow. However DT are just Gods
