And you did forget one that should be listed who I think is 2nd in my book. Jeff Beck.

Go back and read interviews of guitarists back in the day that they first saw Hendrix play.

They all say they felt like giving up on the instrument after seeing him.

I love that story Pete Townsend always tells about in '66 him and Eric went to the movies and Pete leans over and tells Eric "I just saw a guitar player playing the other night that's going to put us both out of work!"

As far as strictly using the Strat for hard rock, Ritchie still doesn't come close to Jimi. Jimi just leaves him in the dust when it comes to feedback, note bending and using the tremelo bar. Beck on the other hand comes a lot more closer than Ritchie.

Try to remember guys, Ritchie has a 36 year edge over Jimi and plus his music was more of a group effort as opposed to a more or less solo act Jimi was. And besides, who was first anyway?

I think the guitar work on Catch the Rainbow-Rainbow On Stage and Far Beyond the Sun by Malmsteen are far superior to anything Hendrix has done.

Itīs a bit difficult debating Hendrix as people have fixed opinions. Itīs the same as discussing Jesus with a staunch Christian. It can get a bit nasty. He is a great guitarist though but I am just stating my opinion.

Why, because he's faster and more technically precise? So what? Jimi was able play the Strat like it was a symphony orchestra. He pulled more sound out of that piece of wood than three guitarists combined.

No doubt Malmsteen is great by today's standards, but Jimi was ions ahead of the game at the time. And besides, I really get tired of guitar players that play like they're being paid by-the-note.

I promise to listen to more Hendrix Senhor! I still havenīt heard the Hendrix track 1983 (I think itīs called that, Iīm not sure) which many people say is very progressive. I love Little Wing too. I used to eat beans and rice (Mothers Cooking) until I discovered Xis Frango com OvoLOL

But on a lighter note itīs good to see Masa came 5th in the Malaysian Grand Prix, hopefully soon he will be Numero 1Clap

I also agree with you Marktheshark that Hendrix was the best "in his time" but Blackmore played with much more emotion and very precise, never sloppy.

Forget Are You Experienced and Axis, great albums but very formuliac. Get Electric Ladyland and the Experience Box Set. The Box Set has some great loose jams with Jimi just wailing on the axe like you've never heard before. No to mention the live cuts included there.

As for Ritchie, he was pretty sloppy in the early years, especially live on Made In Japan. But I have to admit, over the years he's certainly refined himself. I about fell out of my chair when I first heard Blackmore's Knight. I just went "What! That's Blackmore?!"
