Iván, Unfortunately it happens very frequently. Including the reviewer efforts (listening, writing, posting) aren't rewarded. Even being relatively old, I'll try to contact the reviewer and maybe he/she can change his rating. Thanks, gracias |

TOWNSEND, DEVIN "Synchestra"
Review (Permanent link) by Tari Szabolcs Posted 6:52:26 AM EST, 3/18/2006
This is the most beautyful album from Devin Townsend. There are a lot of great songs
with powerful progressive themes. If Terria is great, Synchestra is the best. A
masterpiece of prog music!!

YES "Close to the Edge"
Review (Permanent link) by BoB Posted 11:24:01 PM EST, 3/17/2006 Really, really overrated. For a band whose fans seem to go on and on about musical complexity, this sure is repetitive. For example, the keyboard thing after the intro of Siberian Khatru is repeated twenty-one times! Stop it already! The music does deserve 2-3 stars, but I have to knock it down because the lyrics make me really, really angry. They're terrible, and they make no sense at all. Now nonsensical lyrics work great for people like Syd Barrett, because they are suited to that style of music; the main thing though is that with Syd the listenerknows it's just nonsense, but on CTTE I get the feeling that Jon is trying to say something, but he can't get his point across. He sings crap like "Even Siberia goes through the motions" so seriously that it's impossible to take it as sheer nonsense. So that really kills almost any enjoyment of the music.
Another thing is the packaging. It's hard for me to respect a band that has so many reissues, but then Yes compounds upon that by that annoying green CD case which throws off the rest of my CDs. Much more importantly though, the booklet has the editor of YesWorld breathlessly praising every single second of the album. Fine, tell us about the making of the album, but don't try to influence my opinion with your praise. Most bands put negative reviews in their booklets (like King Crimson on ITCOTCK or Jethro Tull on TAAB), or have a neutral history (for example, on ELP's BSS, the closest they come to praising the music is calling Toccata "ferocious"). So that's why I giving this one star. Why so many people this this is the best prog album/the best album ever is beyond me. What do you think about this review???

DREAM THEATER "Images And Words "
Review (Permanent link) by Louis Préfontaine Posted 6:21:02 PM EST, 3/17/2006 2.3/5.0
I have trouble reading all the reviews on this album. I just don't see how this could even be close to a masterpiece. This is unimaginative music with poor keyboards and an uninviting voice. Sure, those guys have talent, and they know how to play guitar and if you enjoy some good fast-headbanging riffs there are some, but there is absolutely no emotion there, not anything worth listening closely to or enjoying again and again. There are some real prog-metal groups out there which involves much more passion/emotion and are not trying to impress too much with an overwhelming technique (sometimes too much is worse than not enough). I should probably give 1 star, but I chose to give 2 stars by respect to all those who believe this is great. I don't agree with you guys and this should be a "Collectors/fans only" album.
Yes, i believe this is one of the best prog-metal albums ever!!!!!! 5 stars!!! |

Pals, it's really hard to see our most estemeed artists (or their works) being eventually despised by another person but taste is taste and there's very few to do unless to respect others' preferences to make them respect ours. Otherwise I agree that many reviews contain confused parts and/or erroneous information and depending of the case we make the edition or mail the reviewer asking for clearings or corrections. However if all reviews with not-so-clear parts had to be deleted a large amount of PA reviews shall disappear. Hence, DT and Yes reviews stay. |

Don't worry too much "tocayo" (Peruanism for people who share the first name), I once did a very long review about Benefit (More than 1,500 words and took me several hours on a weak afternoon in the office) and just when I clicked the post button, I noticed I had already done one before, I had to reboot my PC just in time so it was not added. When you have done 20 or 30 it's easy to remember all, but after 100 it's hard to do, I can't understand how those guys who have one or two thousand reviews manage to remember. Iván |

Nothing about WHY the disc gets a high rating.
KANSAS "Point of Know Return" How time influences man. The other day I had a family meeting and one younger cousin appraised me for my then music collection (back in 79 / 80). Especially Boston and Kansas. Telling this I remembered the album containing 'Dust in the wind' but I didn't play it often. In fact, I didn't like it much. I still have the vinyl but don't have a record player so I had to find a mp3 version somewhere. After playing the album a couple of times I discovered that brains need maturing like wine or whisk(e)y. At my current age this album sounds to me much better than it did in "the ol' days". So to say it's an excellent addition to any prog music collection. Isn't it today, it might me be in 27 years.

Tuzviharr, BaldJean will choose the better date and you can be sure that one will be deleted. This week-end there's a big PA meeting in The Hague, Netherlands and Jean is there together with several other PA forum members. Edited by Atkingani |

Apparently a great consumption of wine and whisk(e)y increases ratings. |
