Topic: Queen break into Top 100. Posted: March 15 2006 at 10:48 |
Yes indeed at number 95 is Queen II.
In fact since I noticed this "A Night at the Opera" has crept in at number 100!

The point is that Queen II is a quite progressive album. Not prog, but progressive ...

Queen are not prog in the true sense of the word. They have a few progressive songs (Millionaire Waltz, Prophet's Song and BR spring to mind), but IMO they always aimed at simpler and more popular expression. The mentioned songs are something of accidents that they couldn't stop happening because of their background, if you knoworramean...
Queen as of The Game I don't give a half sh*t for. Their creative period ended in 1978.

Queen II is their most progressive album in my opinion. Usually people favor ANATO, but that isn't half as progressive as Queen II.

I dare make a point for Jazz (79) which is still truly a Queen classic album

Ah Snow Dog I am glad you brought up such a wonderful band!
Queen should have at least ONE album in the top 50! (Nevermind 100) Their first 5 albums are all incredible, with blatent prog influences. Queen II and A Night at the Opera are two masterpieces, Queen II took a long time to grow on me, Which is a great thing!

Hey, if a band like Pink Floyd is happily allowed to reside at the top end of a prog album list, there is no reason why Queen shouldn´t be allowed to enter the same list, as well... To me these two bands are both in that (obscure) grey area between "proper" prog and more orthodox popular music.
