 Topic: Why are we greedy?

I have about 700 Cds of all genres. I have many prog albums that are listed in this forum. - But even having all this stuff I try to get more prog by reading this kind of sites. Do I not have enough with all that GENESIS, JETHRO TULL, KING CRIMSON; YES; music? No. I'm looking for something that is different but not to different to what I own.
On the other hand when I first got to know groups like Stargate, Hatfield and the north, Happy the man etc (only 12 month ag0) I was disappointed by what they did. But I still try to get something special that the bands of my youth did not convey. My only hickey is: perhaps there is not more behind the Wall. Perhaps I have heard everything that is different from other music. And I'm on a road to nowhere.
Do you feel the same way? The eternal attempt to find something different?

It's what prog does to us, it forces us ourselves to progress. 
Hey atleast you don't have to throw prog away like pop. You can always go back to a prog album years after your last listen and say, "Hey, that album is badass. I want to listen to it again."
With The Spice Girls, go back to them after a few years and you'll say, "What the hell was I thinking back then. This is utterly useless crap."

Not quite greediness, but yes I want more, more, and more CD's all the time 
And I rarely get disappointed, I love all prog

Part of the love of the music is finding new stuff that will take you on the journey from first listen - hmm this is interesting - to that the final culmination of your listening experience, where the music truly moves you. There are very few works that have the capability of giving the full monty (pardon the pun). For me, that's why I am forever searching. But it is all worth it, when you do find those diamonds in the rough. I just wish we'd all realise that one person's diamond is anothers rough.

The more open minded you are the better. Everything goes for me, even neo  But on the other hand, I'm very picky about non prog stuff.

Well I havnt heard all prog but I can honestly say I have yet to hear any prog that I dont like, theres just some that I like more than others.

By "all prog" I meant all subgenres . I can dislike a band, but every subgenre has its greats IMO.

Absolutely! One of the joys of Prog music is exploring all the genres. I have amassed a huge CD collection of Prog over the last few years covering most genres. Some bands have been disappointing for me but I wouldn't "dis" a genre because one band did not turn out to my liking. Therefore I continue to buy and listen. An expensive pass-time but worth it all in the end

I'm not greedy,I just love music.While I still have my hearing I will continue to buy music (prog or otherwise).Luckily my wife shares the same philosophy as do my 2 teenagers.The only problem is not having enough time to listen to our collection.Last year our new years resolution was to listen to every cd in the collection at least once.Didn't quite get there due to all the new additions taking up listening time.

i felt the same way but now i have discovered post punk and in my opinion equally creative as any prog

I think it's something about humans always wanting something new. It's not just about prog or music, it could be anything. We are never satisfied with what we have and are always striving for more, newer, bigger, better, ... It's probably the reason why we don't still live in caves.

Currently german prog satisfies me and i have a huge wanted-list records. The german cosmic/space genre fully satisfies my quest for out-of-this-world music.
Now, to explain why we always need some new things is a big question. It can be an expression of "orality" in psychological terms.
