The very fact that an ADC for CDs cannot produce frequencies above 22.1 kHz means that it's impossible for it to produce anything even slightly resembling a sawtooth or square wave at 15kHz. I can't be bothered to think the maths through precisely at 4.30am, but it might even be that 11.05kHz is the very highest frequency that a square wave could be output for, bearing in mind the sharp low pass filter applied before DAC and after ADC. For that reason looking using a spectral analyser is entirely useless if you look above 22.1kHz while the signal is still digital, because that nonsense will not be a part of the signal at all when it reaches the speakers, even if one's ears could hear it.

Not only that; at high frequencies they will become literally the same in a digital system.

As will analogue systems always have flaws relative to digital ones. I read an article somewhere about people who hear degradation of records after five or so plays. It probably wasn't true, but it's interesting nonetheless.

You'd be amazed at how much recordists try and make their recordings of orchestras sound like we expect recordings to sound, rather than how the actual orchestra sounds when you hear them live.

I've listen to a big Stax headphones (with its tube prepre) for the first time of my life this week end.
(The whole costs about 2500/3000€).

We listened the big CD setup mentionned above (Teac VRDS20 + Brinkmann Zenith III) through a Counterpoint SA5000 preamp.

Amazing how it goes further in low, high and quickeness than speakers+sub...

A more cerebral styte of listening.

"My goal's beyond" by Mc Laughlin was amazing through the headphones, "The end of an ear" by Wyatt was quite impressive also.

An audiophile friend of us, which is also a sound recorder for "France2" TV, -so headphones is its working tool- listened to this headphones and was crying...

It could be tempting to upgrade my system with a Benchmark Benchmark DAC1 D/A converter.

Also if i ever get my hands on the Nautilus 802 it would be nice to upgrade it with the Marantz SC-7S1 and Marantz MA-9S1. Well i can always dream
