Anybody hear about the new GG DVD "GG at the GG" heres the info from their site: New! The official release of the famous BBC "SIGHT & SOUND" concert from January 1978, at the Golders Green Hippodrome. Audio comes from the BBC Radio 1 Simulcast. There is also a commentary track by Gary, John, Derek, Kerry & Ray! Extras include TV film from "The Old Grey Whistle Test" in 1974, and promo video footage from 1976 and 1978. We've included a bonus audio CD of the concert and "Old Grey Whistle Test." There is also Super 8 footage from April 1975, filmed in Munster, Germany by Martin Buntrock with audio added by Klaus Buntrock. As always, Gary has provided a superb gallery of pics, plus some live shots & memorabilia. Finally, Kerry has composed new music for the intro and menus, with drumming by John "Pugwash" Weathers taken from multitracks provided by our old friend Dan Bornemark.
I have most of this burned as it was a circulation DVD bootleg traded amoung traders, i recieved a copy of this but i will be buying this release also. |

Thanks ..... I was fortunate to have seen GG in concert 3 times. This new DVD is obviously from "The Missing Piece" tour, which will include some different songs that aren't on the other DVD. Hopefully, a couple from FREE HAND, such as "Just the Same" and "On Reflection" which they used to play "live" in that period.

If its the same as the 'BBC Radio 1' live CD then its a lot of "The Missing Piece' plus 'Free Hand,Just the Same,On reflection,Playing the Game'. Does this sound right?

^It does! BBC Radio 1 "In Concert" session no. 169, recorded in the Hippodrome, Golders Green, London, on 5 January 1978. "Hello and welcome to Radio 1's [Sight and Sound] In Concert which you can hear on 247 metres on the Medium wave, in stereo on the Radio 2 VHF network, between 88 and 91 MegaHertz, and, [of course, you can see it on BBC2 in colour. And, as a special first for tonight's show, we're broadcasting in Quadraphonic so, those of you that have got a BBC H-matrix quadraphonic decoder, well.. you're very lucky and if you've got four ears you're luckier still!] It's also a first because tonight's guests haven't been on the show before and they also haven't played in England for the last two and a half years so it definitely is quite an occasion so would you welcome, please, with their last single, which was called 'Two Weeks in Spain', Gentle Giant!"
As official BBC concert footing I suppose it's good quality especially when remasterd Edited by Alucard |

YESSSSSSSS!!!! I knew they had to release that concert eventually! This is gonna be an essential release, chaps. They were firing on all cylinders when this concert was taped. Forgive the Missing Piece material, this performance is amazing. |

Thanks for the confirmation ALUCARD. I just hope its "all regions"coded as 'Giant on the Box" is. For me ,the amazing thing is that I was in London at the time and saw the concert on TV.It was the only taste of live GG I could get in the 16 months I was there for,so I'm keen to be reacquainted with it.My inability to recall their play list demonstrates the deterioration of the old brain cells,I'm afraid!

And here's 8 reasons why you should:
Honestly, I can't believe how petty that post of yours is, aaron. Here's a chance for footage-starved fans to see a high quality performance of some classic GG material, and ALL you can think of to do is snipe about one dodgy song. How pathetic. |

That one dodgey song was never meant to be anything more than tongue -in -cheek - its probably why its so short. Anyway, for what it is, it rocks along almost a la parts of 'Why Not'.I agree with TROUSERPRESS to the extent that the live treatment of some of these songs is more interesting than the studio production-thats something I can recall. Plus theres nothing like seeing a live performance, even of your least favourite songs. You will always find some redeeming features at worst.I suggest ACQUIRE and TASTE notwithstanding.......!!Then there's all the extras apart from the Sight and Sound concert.

Actually Betcha Thought We Couldn't Do It (2:38) is very well performed and equals the quality of the performance on The Missing Piece The only disappointment is Memories Of Old Days (7:14) where the performance is not as good as the recording As far as TMP goes. It was one of the finest (progressive) pop recordings ever. A recording Genesis Duke era or YES 90125 (read million sellers) could ever dream of making. Play it for lovers of pop rock to show how this music should be done |
