Just a quick stab at the David Gilmour reviewers out there. DAVID GILMOUR IS NOT PINK FLOYD. This is a solo album by a man who used to be in the band Pink Floyd. David has been trying for years to step out of the Floyd shadow and be his own person. He is an exceptional musician and deserves to be rated on his own merits, not just on the Floyd meter.

So I can't say I like David Gilmour's work in a Pink Floyd rant? I know David Gilmour is not part of Pink Floyd anymore (if it even exists) even though he was.

How can we listen to this disc without think in Pink Floyd? Would you be interested in hear this album if the guy weren't a Floyd Member? WHY ???

I didn't listen to this disc yet, but i say a big 'thank you' to everybody that reviewed this album here in Prog Archives, talkin' bad or good things about it... I love the democracy

I totally get your point and agree 100%. Sure it's hard not to think about Pink Floyd when listening to David Gilmour's new material but the fact that he once was a PF member is not the only reason to listen to this CD. I mean, if everyone liked David Gilmour that much is because he is first of all a talented musician. Give the man a break and stop those comparisons with Pink Floyd.

And BTW, isn't it a bit early to write a review for this album. It came out today. You have to give an album some time before you can write a good review about it. Well, that's what I think.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

I agree 100%. It's not Pink Floyd but after a first listen I think it's a great
album.

I just read the review in question.Geez its rediculous reviews like that really put a damper on this good site.David Gilmour releases a new album and gets derided because it's not Pink Floyd.I guess one good thing is that I can read a pathetic review like that and think,  Ignor!

It is perhaps significant that Gilmour chose to deem his previous solo album "A momentary lapse of reason" as being by Pink Floyd, whereas this time he has put his own name on it.

It has to be said though that since Waters departure, Gilmour has been by far the biggest influence on the sound of Pink Floyd, so comparisons are inevitable.

Hello,
Heard the album every free minute since friday and it was awesome at thefirst turn and it only became bigger.
And NO it is not a f**king Pink Floyd album, it is David Gilmours (& Polly Samsons) solo album, with Castellorizon landscapes and themes, not more no less.
And yes it is great, for me it comes close to DSOTM... yes I mean that. F**king good.

And if someone wants a new Pink Floyd album, go and listen to RPWL (you're in the right Martin77), or Porcupine Tree, Nosound maybe Roger Waters (and he's isn't Pink either!).

You might want to read the forum guidelines, especially the section dealing with profanity.

There is no need to talk like that.

Just some quick notes about the new album from a big Gilmour fan.

- No this is not a Floyd album.
- Although, Yes this album is pretty good.
- But, make no mistake it is no Dark Side of the Moon.

Early impressions are positive, but not blindly fanatical. I'd give it 3/5 stars if I was writing a review (which I won't for a while as I need time for it to all sink in.)

Nice Gilmour guitarwork: both solo and ambient.

Recommended for latter-day Floyd fans to be sure, but in no way, shape or form, at all 'progressive'
