I am a huge fan of this great BBC show and watch it incessantly. For fans of this show on the forum, what is your favorite season?

They are all good, imo. It's between Season 3 and Season 5 for me because they each contain a classic RD episode(Polymorph in 3 and Back to Reality in 5).

I want to pick 3 because it was a turning point in the shows development and look, but I gotta go with Season 5.

All of seasons II to VI were brilliant for me,but seeing as I have to choose Season VI would just win my vote, for classic episodes like "Rimmerworld", "Gunmen Of The Apocalypse" and "Psirens".

In general I would say that Season VII was fine until Chris Barrie baled (and unlikely that "our" Rimmer could take over as Ace) and Kochansky took his place. The whole dynamic was ruined and although the rest of the episodes weren't disasters they were never quite as good.Season VII was poor....

Kryten is my favourite character.

Cat: "Forget red - let's go all the way up to brown alert!"
Kryten: "There's no such thing as a brown alert sir."
Cat: "You won't be saying that in a minute!"

I agree with you that some of the luster was gone after Barrie left during Season 7(and very improbable that he could become Ace Rimmer).Season 7 also didn't seem to be thought out that well and the cast seemed to be going through the motions.

I like Season 6 alot, some great episodes there(especially Rimmerworld and Gunmen...)but no Holly was sort of a bummer.

Did you notice how much bigger Starbug became after they lost Red Dwarf and had to actually live in it?

Favorite character:Arnold Judas Rimmer(Barrie is great!!!!)

I agree about seasons II to VI and I'm gonna choose season III because I like the episodes Backwards, Timeslides and Polymorph.

Does anyone remember which episode featured Listers band who do the 'Ohm song'??

That was Timeslides!

Lister's band:Smeg and The Heads (played by Napalm Death) Craig also 'wrote' (if that's the right word) the Om song.

Great episode.

Wasn't "young Lister" in that episode actually played by Craig Charles' younger brother?

It's a British sci-fi/comedy series.

I have been addicted to it for about a decade.

I'm blown away by this thread! I thought I was the only one who watched this little gem. I can not however narrow my viewing pleasure for this show. The roughness of the earlier seasons are so camp. One thing is for sure, the original Holly is the best. The later series with the added characters like Kachanski really filled out the Dwarf. I really love this show.

Cat: "Forget red - let's go all the way up to brown alert!"
Kryten: "There's no such thing as a brown alert sir."
Cat: "You won't be saying that in a minute!"

Yes! one of my favourite moments.
Here I'm shadowed by a dragon fig tree's fan
ringed by ants and musing over man.

Episide 8, second favourite? That's surprising......and interesting.

I always thought the series worked better when the main cast ie Lister,Rimmer,Cat,Kryten and Holly were unencumbered by having to interact with too many human characters. I felt that the final series, with the whole of Red Dwarf and its crew rebuilt by the nanobots was a series too far.

I thought the whole premise of Season 8,with the nanobots resurrecting the crew, spoiled the whole dynamic of the show.

5.Quarantine

6.Rimmerworld - ditto. An all-time classic!!!

7.Stoke Me A Clipper

8.Krytie TV ditto- easily the best episode of the series.

Mind you there's dozens of excellent episodes!

Anyone thinking of getting into Dwarf should start as near to the beginning as possible otherwise you might just not get it...
