A suggestion....

Maybe it is time to have 2 Prog Lounges, one up to 1990 and the other Post 1990. Maybe call them The Classic Lounge and The New Lounge. So for those who want to talk about Genesis, Kansas, Tull, Yes and Floyd go to the Classic Lounge. Those who want to talk about newer Prog go to the New Lounge.

For those who want a this old band versus this new band debate, they can make a poll.

An interesting proposal, but what about albums by Yes, Tull, Floyd etc. made in the 1990s? Which section would they go in? It is hard enough getting people to start threads in the right section now, without hoping they will check when a band was formed, or when an album was released.Confused

I think it would make more sense to make a rock/metal separation ... if any.

If they want to talk about more recent Yes and Kansas albums they still do that in the Classic lounge.

There are a lot of posters who donīt think there is any good prog after 1980(I wonīt mention namesWink. Therefore those folk can go directly to the Classic Lounge and those who want to discover new stuff go to the New Lounge.

Maybe even a Rock Lounge for bands like Purple, Zep etc and a Metal Lounge for Maiden, Saxon etc. There would have to be some guide lines so people post in the correct threads.

Are you suggesting four lounges: early prog, modern prog, rock and metal?

What's the point calling this for a prog forum then?? Maybe we should change the name to RockArchives?  With band suggestions like: "I think Westlife is pretty Rock, IMO!" "Well, you're obviously wrong, however, I suggest Mariah Carey! She is VERY rocky to me!" and so on...

Proto Prog-Purple, Queen etc

If you want to talk about metal there are tons of other sites. This site is Prog Archives. Well thats it gentlmen, lets begin the changesLOL

Next thing you know, there will be 17 lounges for each of the subgenres. How about 2,295 for each band? Or 10,835 for each title?

I know, that's exaggerating. But why not just keep it simple? You can usually tell what a thread is about from the title.

I would even suggest deleting the proto-prog and prog-related lounge and moving those back to the prog music lounge. I must've missed that separation when it happened. Proto-prog and prog-related still have something to do with prog music.

Actually that has been done. It was tried (unsuccessfully) about a year ago, and due to complaints it was returned to normal.
