I'm probably in the minority here, but I would definately say X Factor. The album is probably their most progressive work. Blaze Bayley did an excellent job filling the shoes of Bruce Dickinson. The tones on that album are much more variant and the compositions are so much longer. Just listen to Sign of The Cross, The Aftermath, Blood on the World's Hands, The Unbeliever, and 2 AM and tell me Maiden didn't make a progressive effort with that album.

Number of the beast blew me away the first time I heard it, also like Killers and Poweslave.
Seeing someone mention NWOBHM gave me a thought of calling new Prog bands post 1990 NWOPRB (PRB=Progressive Rock Bands)

My head is still ringing from my first listening of Number Of the Beast, some 20 years ago! Killers and Piece of Mind come in a blurry second. I pretty muched stopped after Powerslave, yet Running Free from the debut is frequently in my metal roundabout. Up the Irons!

Paul DiAnno was much more powerful than Bruce Bruce (and Paul was a pure brute)

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

I like Dickinson but could never understand why some Maiden fans hate DiAnno,he had a great voice.
His solo album Nomad is wirth checking out.
