Steve Hackett - Firth Of Fifth effect?

Could someone tell me what effect(s) Steve Hackett uses on Firth Of Fifth?
(Both live and the studio versions)
Does he use a volume pedal with something that gives alot of sustain? Or an e-bow?
Anyone know?

	I would say it's a COMPRESSOR, that's the way of getting that sustain. And he also uses a chorus pedal to get that special sound.

	The solo on FOF that Hackett plays seems to have a bowing effect, you know starts quiter gets louder with sustain, it could be a compressor I suppose. I have heard countless other guitarists use this sound as well, IE Allan Holdsworth, Steve Howe, Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa to name a few. Can't think of particular tracks at the moment though I recently played a track called the solders disease by Happy the Man with the same effect on it. Hackett himself uses it on a few other pieces as well. I have seen guitarists turn the volume knob on the guitar with they little finger to get a similar bowing sound, just wonder what Hackett uses?

	I know what you mean. I am not sure if he uses his little finger to turn the volume knob or just a volume pedal... I have to take a look at some Genesis videos. I prefer to use the volume pedal, is more confortable

	In order to give an answer to this question about Hackett I just watched a DVD that a friend recorded for me, it contains a 30 minutes promo video from Seconds Out featuring Firth Of Fifth. As far I can see Steve Hackett his bowing sound is a combination of bending strings and using the volume pedal. By the way, nice to meet you here, Carakhallo!

	llol i am not familiar with all the effects pedals and equipment but i can play the solo, so now i'm very interested....what's a compressor do lol and yeah i can do that volume knob thin gbut now it's too loose and the knob is messed cause i did it so much
