I don't understand it:  on one hand the additions of Radiohead, Queen, Talk Talk, The Beatles and lots of reviews from folk, experimental and electronic bands that have nothing in common with rock and on the other hand the strong opposition against a new category named Prog Andaluz. Why was there so few opposition against the Italian symphonic prog that you can hardly describe as typical Italian. Was everybody sleeping or .. There is so much confusion and inconsequency on this site  ...

Hello progheads.

I have just posted this in the "Collaborators discussions" section on the Forum:

 

"Hello fellow collaborators.

I just checked the Prog Genre section and noticed that it features two special categories:

1) Indo-prog/Raga rock

2) Italian Symphonic

Most of you will have noticed that I am very determined to create the new category Prog Andaluz. The main reason is that is a very distinctive and widespread blend of the folk genre flamenco and progressive rock. It started in Andalusia (Southern Spain) with Triana in the second part of the Seventies but years later bands from all the country also made Prog Andaluz (it was named Rock Andaluz but I would like to focus on prog) like progrock band Grandada from .. Madrid! In my opinion (as Micky mentioned in my topic Spanish Prog!) it would be very clear for the progheads to use the category Prog Andaluz because it is so distinctive and if one is interested in this typical progrock genre it's very easy for a further investigation is you like flamenco and progrock!

Prog Archives have allowed the prog genres Indo prog/Raga rock and Italian symphoic rock (that has nothing typical Italian!) for an inclusion, I don't see why we should oppose against the new category Prog Andaluz? I am looking forward to your reactions."

I hope that this will lead to a constructive discussion and cleaning up the genres!

I donīt know much about the spanish scene exepted the big names (Triana among others). My personal favortie is:

GUALBERTO , A La Vida / Al Dolor (1975)

I have only heard Los Canarios- Ciclos, but have two on order.   Mezuquita- Recuerdos de mi Tierra, and Atila- Reviure.  Baby steps for now I know, 'so much prog so little time' hahahha but I'm sure I'll love them.  Hopefully I'll be able to add more to the discussion rather than being a meer cheerleader for Erik and his crusade hahahah.

my wife is beginning to grumble about the credit card hahahah, so this order I just got might be it for a a couple weeks hahahah. When the coast is clear, I'll ask for some more recommends.  I'd like what I've heard enough to 'dig deeper'.

oh no... the American south..... a  desolate wasteland of things prog.  Have to do all my shopping via the internet hahahah.  Problems with Becks... nah... she's a redhead.. if it's not the CC bill it would be something else... like  the way I dress myself hahahahha (still have a thing for flannel shirts hahahha)
I wouldn't trade her for anything though... she puts up with me.  I married 'up' not 'down'

hahaha yes to some the American south is still a country of it's own and will rise again  but yes... I live in North Carolina.


Any luck with the campaign to have Spanish Prog recognized seperately....

EXCELLENT INDEED! In a way, I envy your "newbie" position, the magic of listening to those albums for the first couple of times... that magic that never gets repeated again.

Great albums. I'll be getting that Mezquita and a Triana album in my next purchase.

Erik, what is the status of your "crusade" for recognition of prog Andaluz?

Anyway, thanks for this thread. I learned about new bands and albums which I will be hunting down to listen to.

My 'Prog Andaluz crusade' has ended with echoes from Kingdom Of Heaven  but fortunately no victims although I am not pleased with the result that most of my collaborators don't see the necessarity of such an incusion, very sad but we had a great and vivid chat in this topic, thanks again!
