I'm a newb here, though not to Prog. I was born in 1970.
I was introduced to Rush, Yes, and Pink Floyd as a teenager. A friend and teacher introduced me to early Genesis about seven years ago (I only really knew the awful "Invisible Touch" stuff, although I liked "abacab", just not enough to buy it.) Saw Yes (as ABWH) twice. "Close to the Edge", "Thick as a Brick", "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," and "Selling England by the Pound" are my favorite prog cds.
Recently I've been rediscovering this music and expanding my knowledge and appreciation of it. I'm having a love affair with early Genesis.
Camel, Gentle Giant I had never heard of till this past year. Love "Snow Goose" and "Power and the Glory"
This site has already introduced me to a few bands I otherwise never would have heard. I had no idea there was Italian prog, for example. I now have a Le Orme cd and more (PFM, Banco, Maxophone) on the way
Not a big fan of neoprog so far. Tried Spock's Beard, IQ, Porcupine Tree, and didn't like them. They seem to lack the subtlety of the '70s bands. I hear a lot of flash, and no intimacy.
Thanks very much!
