This has probably been done at some point but its a fun question so assuming you were going to live on a deserted island and could never reach humanity again and could bring with you 5 and only 5 cds of any genre what would you bring.

My choices:

J.S. Bach`s Goldberg Variations performed by Glen Gould

Yes - CTTE

Genesis- SEBTP

Dream Theater - Images and Words

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

If anyone knows where I can get a copy of some Flute and Voice (Indo-Prog/Raga Rock) albums please PM me! Many thanks!

Magnificent choice walrus333, but I must ask you:  1955 or 1981?

I prefer 1981.

So much music. So little time.

ELP - Brain Salad Surgery

Yes - Close To The Edge

Mike Oldfield - Incantations

Rush - Different Stages (Live)

Martin Orford - Classical Music and Popular Songs

Means no Genesis and IQ which is a blow, but those are my essential albums and they contain enough variety. If you were to ask for my top five favourite albums it would be different.I'm looking it at purely from the desert isalnd scenario. For instant I rate 'Ommadawn' higher than 'Incantations' but the latter has 4 peices.I also would rate IQ's 'Ever' as better than the Martin Orford album, but the latter has more variety of styles.I also need a good rockin album on my island and Rush fits the bill, but again 'Moving Pictures' is my Rush favourite album. The Yes and ELP albums will always be in any list I do though!

Those last 4 are excellent choices.

I'll have a glance over at my CD rack (No LPs on the desert island, they'd get warped  )

I'd probably bring :

Supertramp - Breakfast in America
Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
Rush - 2112
Ancient - Det Glemte Riket

The Lamb

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

Col. Claypool and Progger have great lists too.

PS Live At Leeds also figures in there somewhere.

These threads are so redundant but I can't help it...

Iron Maiden - Beast Over Hammersmith (I don't actually own this but if I had to choose one I own it'd be Piece of Mind or Powerslave)

Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force - (self entitled debut)

Planet X - Live From Oz

Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy

Deep Purple - Machine Head
