This thread is indeed pointless IMO. PT are a pretty unique and hard to get into band. It took me a while to get into In Absentia, Deadwing was more accessible, and Signify I still don't quite get. Still I think it's very close minded to discard them after one listen to one album... and their albums are very different!

I heard 3 PT albums and wasn't interested. But I'd thought I'd let Gentletull know that I recently picked up 2 Jethro Tull albums from the 90s. Dotcom and Roots to branches. Fantastic stuff and these guys are still a level above all the modern day so called Progressive bands. I also download It all trickles down from your site. Very good Dotcom B side single

tull are still in a league of their own. Almost all modern rock bands sound amateur when I listen to tull songs like awol, wicked windows, far alaska. Very clever songs

Porcupine

Porcupine droppings are usually about 2/3 "inch. They are curved and round. Porcupines walk slowly and because of this they have very sharp quills that can stick into your body. You have to use tweezers to take them out. The track is about 2 1/4 inches long.

Who are you kidding?I saw Tull live last year.Jethro Dull!! What a boring concert that was,other than the outstanding Budapest.Anderson has lost his vocal range and was near impossible to hear.Now that was a concert I found amateurist.I saw TMV 3 weeks ago and was blown away by the raw energy emanating from that band.If PT ever make there way to Australia I will definately see them.Modern Proggers keep it coming.And no I dont hate old prog either.

@Sean Trane, I agree with you on what you are saying about reviewers needing considerably more experience of prog before they go right a review because how can you tell what is a masterpiece when the only album you have heard is Big Generator (I'm not sure but I bet its better than a lot of pop). For this reason I have stoped righting reviews because I couldnt honestly justify some of my rateings withought any real knoledg of the bands discogrophy and other bands in the genre. However there are always some albums that stand up above the rest, Metropolis Pt2 for me is one of them and there are a couple of others.

BTW as for TMV first album I found it a lot more focused than FTM and maybe even more agressive but I think it was pretty good. 

 

Don't let anybody tell you that this is not a good and important album.  I spent a lot of time thinking about it before i gave it five stars.  Nobody who has severly criticized it has done so with an understanding of what the album is doing.  That being said, people may not like the style but it is what it is.

hey carrots, we are talking about tulls studio albums dotcom and roots. They are miles ahead of porcupine, tool. U would be stupid to judge tull as a band from a recent concert. Ian can't sing anymore in concert. But the 2 albums we were discussing are at a much higher level than all these new bands

That's a fanboyish and ignorant statement!

Come on, you don't know these new bands well enough to judge like that.

It's as if I said that Falling Into Infinity and Train Of Thought is better than all those 70's oldies. It may not be to your taste, but never generalize like that.

Funny that but 90% of the songs Tull played in that concert were from the early albums.More blues numbers.That shows what Jethro Tull themselves think of their newer material!

Tool fans obviously dont know what's good and what's bad lol. Beleive me Tull cream those bands in the 90s lol. You can hear a few of those songs at my site under Dotcom and Roots to branches. Ian sings very well in them too. The music is alot smarter and it's several classes above. Laterus was rubbish to my ears

A hate thread with 8 pages...I can't go wrong posting here.

I own Voyage 34 and The Sky Moves Sideways, and I like them fairly well. I gave 4 stars to Voyage 34 and will probably give close to the same but perhaps a bit more to The Sky...

I've heard a few songs from Deadwing and they failed to do anything at all for me.
