Hello Stechell.
Good to notice this attention for the wonderful Sout-American prog!
This is very difficult for me because there are so many good bands, each with its own flavor:
Los Jaivas made an outstanding album entitled Alturas De Macchu Picchu on which we can find a wonderful blend of ethnic music (traditional guitar, flutes, percussion) and modern instruments like electric guitars and several kebyoards like the Minimoog. The atmosphere is as beautiful as the Andes!
Nexus makes splendid Seventies inspired traditional symphonic rock featuring excellent Hammond and Moog runs in the vein of Keith Emerson, fiery electric guitar and lots of bombastic climates. Their contribution to the Odessey project is the highlight on this 3-CD compilation!
Crusis is an Argentine legend tha tneeds no introduction, I love their debut album!
Angulart made a very captivating debut CD with Done RenacenLas Horas.
I miss Bacamarte with their debut album Dopois Do Fim, perhaps this is the best South American progrock album!
And don't forget the promising young band Amagrama from Argentina!

Hey, you have something against Peruvian Prog bands, listen:
- Traffic Sound
- Laghonia
- Frágil (Avenida Larco or Sorpresa en el Tiempo)
And then give me your opinion.
Iván

The only one I've heard so far is MIA's Cornosmthng, which is no doubt one of the best prog albums of the 70s (and indeed of all time).

I noticed that Ergo Sum is not on the list. ![](smileys/smiley5.gif) Sorry to say but that's the only band i've got both albums from. And I think they are magnificent, anyone on the list that can be compare to them?

In a general aspect, MAR DE ROBLES follows a similar trend to that of ERGO SUM's. On the other hand, the rockier side of ERGO SUM reminds me of TRYO's.
Regards.

I haven't listened to much SA Prog yet, but I'm going for "Los Jaivas". Their sound is very unique.

Suritis: The Remembering.
Hopefully we should appreciate that given points in time are not so significant as the nature of what is impressed on the mind, and how it is retained and used.

Where's Seru Giran? ![](smileys/smiley19.gif)
It's more famous than all the others in that list (with the exceptions of maybe Los Jaivas)(

Matraz is the best prog band I've ever heard from this place on Earth. I really love their sounds and I'm fan since Gritaré ![](smileys/smiley2.gif)
Claudio Cordero (guitars) and Diego Aburto (keyboards) are a couple that can easyly make you shiver with songs like Cóndor, Redención or their 40 minutes lasting song Tiempo. They've a unique sound, never heard around here and I fell in love with the band long ago... ![](smileys/smiley9.gif) I must confess that I know many of the other bands on the list, and the ones that other people mentioned. Mar De Robles is one of my favourites, as much as Los Jaivas, Ergo Sum, Toccata (from Mexico, a splendid band), Angra (another o e at top one of my list), etc... There are many impressive bands in this corner of the Earth, it's just a thing of searching well. Greeting to everyone, glad to be around here
