I have heard a couple of Dillinger songs, and they're pretty good, but Meshuggah is soooo much better!

DEP sucks, but Meshuggah on the hand is awesome, if you ignore the lack of emotions.

Definitely don't listen to math metal (or math rock for that matter) for the emotional content.  It is math after all.

Meshuggah is better.

You don't have to have emotion in every song,by every band you listen to.

Those two bands are not really comparable. DEP are a metalcore/mathcore/grindcore band, whereas Meshuggah are Thrash Metal (early albums) and Avant-Garde Thrash Metal (later albums).

BTW: Meshuggah are much better than DEP ... IMHO of course.

I think DEP were influenced by Meshuggah.

True, but hardly any of Meshuggah's material bears much emotion. DEP is hardly better; only a small group of songs have emotion, but they are exceptional (i.e. "Baby's First Coffin"). With the exception of Miss Machine, none of their albums really have a lot of diversity within themselves. Nevertheless, both bands are inventive, unique and very talented. Of the two, I have only seen DEP live, but they're performance (neglecting the environment and manic stage antics) was great. Their drummer was even better than I had had thought. Still, Meshuggah's main feat, the polyrhythms, is both unprecented and unmatched by any other group out there. I admire both bands, and at the time don't really have a preference.

Lastly, I would rather listen to Between the Buried and Me's Alaska instead of any Meshuggah or DEP album. You can't really compare them to Meshuggah (not that DEP is a better comparison), but for the sake of the topic...I think that album in particular (the earlier albums weren't as good and/or consistent) has the same level of musicianship, but is far more diverse and emotional. Plus, the vocalist has a mean scream/grow, but an even better singing voice; great range too (check out "Backwards Marathon"). Some of Alaska's material runs into the same problems as the other two bands, but not as frequently. Some of this opinion is subject to change though.

I think that DEP's Calculating Infinity is better than any Meshuggah album.
