People are puzzled why I don't dig the Stones, well, I listened to the Stones, I tried, and I tried, and I tried, and--I Can't Get No Satisfaction!

I agree except with the "way too" part.

And I also think they are able to poke humor at themselves. So don't worry.
Go and listen to my music.

I'm a very affable fellow in a social setting.

I believe some muscians are sub-conciously serious.  I am quite serious when it comes to making music and recommending music.

Only The Pretentios (probably spelt wrong) types who use prog as an intelectual exercise to make themselves seem smarter do.  They make prog seem like the stereotype other peope see it as. Art school bollocks. Progs there to push boundrys and have a good time

Yes, but to be fair, most "prog" bands take themselves too seriously as well.  That's why I love Rush and King Crimson because they don't!

Woudn't be more accurate to say that Prog fans take music too seriously?

Normal musical listeners USE music just as an instrument to have fun, look cool or to dance, Prog' fans go beyond, some of us are maniacs that devoure every Prog related recording or reading material and expend thousands of dollars buying albums that were released 30 or 40 years ago.

Some of us even buy the same album two, three or four times just because their's a a new bonus song or a special recording that sounds 1% beter than the original.

While normal music fans hear the music, we analyze it, investigate the roots, influences, structures, this make us seem that we take ourselves too seriously, but it's the opposite, because we sacrifice work and studies or even time with our families to dedicate to learn about the music we love or to write in Prog Archives and/or any other forum..

So we Prog' fans take life and ourselves less seriously than the average music listeners who only enjoy music during a party or with friends, while we breath Prog' and can't live without it.

I'm spending my friday evening listen to Prog on my I-Pod while browsing the forums so I think you could say yes. I try to have serious musical discussions with my friends, but most of them just turn the subject to sports or beer.
