I'm afraid not. In the old days I used to listen to a lot of things. But prog is so good and so diverse, that I've become much more narrow minded. As it comes to music, that is... Prog music adds up to about 90% of the music I listen to!

Seems to me everyone would be better off listening to all music, not just prog to become well rounded. Maybe everyone would learn about astonomy, history, philosophy, etc. even without prog?
I know myself, I became aware of social issues because of other forms of music, namely rock, folk and punk. I don't want to mention names but some on this forum might become well rounded if they took a music appreciation course, opened their minds and listen to other forms of music.
Prog is great music but it has its limitations.

i'm getting really sick of these elitist posts about prog. music listeners
are people who listen to progressive music generaly smarter than those who don't?
should people who don't listen to progressive music be forced into concentration camps so that they can work for us prog. fans and play a role in society?
should people who listen to progressive music be entitled to tax breaks that non-progressive fans can't recieve?
enough with these meaningless 'prog music makes us better than the rest of the world' posts

This is a prog web site, incase you didn't know when you first stumbled her and signed up. If you don't like open discussions about prog and why we like it, or if you are not mature and open minded enough to appreciate other's veiws, I suggest you join the Punk Rock Archives web site. It's a great place to learn how to stay close minded.

Not really. The only thing liking prog has done to me is transfer my addiction from video games to music.

Nobody can say that music has made them smart. Maybe it has helped them realize what they truly like, and encouraged them to use their mind to their full potential, but it doesn't make you smart.
I think that if prog (or any other genre) makes up more than 80% of your music collection, you'll eventually reach a point where everything gets boring and look for a different kind of music. Then you'll fear you've lost your good tastes in music and go through a phase of "I hate music, it bores the hell out of me, and I can't stand King Crimson anymore" and start listening to too much soft rock on the local "great light rock hits for the whole family" station. And then you'll know you went wrong somewhere. Well, that's just my opinion.

Musically, perhaps...
Otherwise, it is education and loving, parenting, travelling, reading, etc (in brief, living a full life, and having a personality that is open to new experiences and outlooks) that have made me a more well-rounded person.

You wrote 'Prog bess you' instead of 'Prog bless you'. It seems that your attention span is insufficient for you to show any profound appreciation for prog. Therefore, from now on, your recommendations, criticism and opinions in general mean nothing to me.

Such wisdom from our Canadian sage! . I could not put it better myself. I also add that I have noticed that I am less tolerant now of other music genres that contribute to mainstream music. I will listen to them but I find them less attention-gathering than prog rock music, or classical and jazz.
