To whoever mentioned them: My Dying Bride, excellent. But probably more suited to after the end of the world? lol
I think I'd have to choose the end of some conceptual extreme metal album, where all the demons are unleashed or the character goes on a bloody rampage or whatever, say Emperor's "Thorns on my Grave".
Or perhaps Rush's "Cygnus X-1, book 1" would be suited? The way it ends, certainly.
Or to look a little further back: Danse Macabre, or Night on a Bare Mountain?

OK, if we must be relevant, (i.e. Suppers Ready, 4 horsemen, 666, etc.) then how about "Circus of Heaven", Yes. Not at all gloomy as end-of-the-world songs go.

How about something by Brittany Spears (sp?)? I think that would set the perfect mood for the End of Time.

The world is about to end, man! Fire and Brimstone time! The Beast, walking abroad. The Four Jockies of doom etc. I wanna see scantily clad nurses and puny little bald guys chasing the person responsible for it all (insert world leader of choice) around a field in fast-mo, to the sound of "Yackety Sax"! It's the tune I want played at my funeral, as the box slides through the curtains. (my daughter says "No Way!", but it's what I want.)

'Lady in Red' by Chris De Burgh..
You could then celebrate the fact that you will NEVER hear that song again..

All of Muse's 'Absolution' album with Aphrodites Child The Four Horseman and ELP's Karn Evil 9 rounded off with Genesis 'Suppers Ready'(for the 'apocalypse section' of course!).

There are many, as Maani said Supper's Ready is one of them, but my first choices are:
- 666 (Aphrodite's Child): Narrates all the book of Revelations.
- Heaven and Hell (Vangelis): Dark and mysterious.
- Journey to the Centre of the Earth (R. Wakeman): Pompous and gothic.

A song from GYBE!'s 'Yanqui U.X.O.' - a bit sombre, yet filled with exquisite string arrangements. Lately it has become my fave GYBE! album, and I think this music conveys both the sadness of ultimately dying along with the Universe, and at the same time, a certain kind of " trascendental hope" for "better things" to come in a different outer dimension.

All:
Y'all must be forgetful: wouldn't Supper's Ready be the perfect thing, since the final section is actually taken from the Revelation, and is called "Apocalypse in 9/8?"
Peace.
