I'll be making my first (but hopefully not last!) trip to Europe next
month as I'm going to France with my French class. In preparation, I'd
like to get into some French music. So, what are some good French prog
bands? Off hand I can only think of Adagio, who I'm not a huge fan of.
If anybody knows any other good non-prog French artists, feel free to
mention them as well.

I don't know much about French music, but Magma are the most essential
prog group from France. Also, Jean-Michel Jarre is a popular
French artist. Have fun in France!

What a coincidence, I'm going to France with my French class over easter break. I'd be interested as well. I'm also going to take a list of Italian prog bands and their best albums with me because we'll be in a few places in Italy too. |

Magma are essential; Clearlight are also very good. Catharsis have some moments, but as far as I know they are not in the archive yet.

Catharsis is quite weak and overrated IMO. Clearlight is essential. Get the last remaster of this and you will understand what i mean: (The former Mantra CD version is very bad sounding and doesn't features the FANTASTIC bonus, like "Sweet absinthe", an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE) http://www.clearlight888music.com/catalog.htm#bubbles To talk about less-known records, this one is only available in vynil, but excellent: Alain Markusfeld/Le désert noir (1977) Edited by oliverstoned |

It may be difficult for you to find, I recommend Emmanuel Booz/le Jour Ou Les Vaches .... , Emmanuel Booz/Dans Quel Etat J'erre, Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes/Le Temps De L'autre if you like progressive rock not typical symphonic rock. William Sheller/Lux Aeterna is also excellent.

If you talk about progressive pop:
Nino Ferrer/Metronomie (1971) features a very progressive long piece (instrumental): ...and a beautiful cover, as you can see. Edited by oliverstoned |

Nah, I'm down in London, Ontario, and I think we're going with people from St. Thomas. Too bad, it would have been nice to meet some other prog fans on the trip. |
