Yeah, so I love all of the main genres of prog, but I want to know if (even though they may not be listed) are these bands worth checking out? -Sonata Artica -Nevermore -Children of Bodom -Stratovarius I was told that I would like S.A. if I like Dream Theater ( I do). I've never heard of Nevermore. I've heard Bodom, and I'm convinced that if they were only instrumental, I would love them. But the vocals suck...I can't get past his hollow screaming. I love Opeth, Akerfeldt's growls are second to none, but Bodom needs to find a better singer. Though his guitar playing is awesome.
What do you guys think?

Agree with you on Bodom- his vocals wear on you.........Sonata is pretty good- but after a while they start sounded the same (their songs) Nevermore is good- but after a while I start yourning for Prog :) Dream Theater is Sweet- everything about them- same with Opeth |

If you like power metal you will like SONATA ARCTICA.
Stratovarius are also worth checking out, BUT the early stuff by them!! |

Hehe, it's "This Godless Endeavor". Very good album, I'd pick it up. Also, Dead Heart in a Dead World and Dreaming Neon Black are excellent. Then get the rest if you like them. S.A. are a good listen, and as someone else mentioned, early Stratovarius is fun.
CoB is ok. Not my cup of tea...not cause of the vocals, but I find that the way they integrate power metal style synths doesn't work for me. |

f**k all else, just go for Arcturus, both "La Masquerade Infernale" and "Sham Mirrors" are wonderful(Considering your tastes I think "Sham Mirrors" would be the place to start).

Those are all power metal bands, or at least pseudo-power metal (Bodom
isn't really power, but meh). It's a fun genre at first but it gets
really old really fast (at least it did for me). Check out DragonForce,
they're a pretty fun band.

I really enjoy both Nevermore and COB, though both feature vocals which
take some getting used to. SA and Stratovarius are pretty basic
power metal, fun stuff that doesn't have a ton of replay value.

Nevermore is one hell of a metal band, highly recommended.
Listen to their newest cd; "This Godless Endeavor" or at least check the song "Final Product"; it has four guitar solos... just mind-blowing. Also, If you decide to go any further with these guys, check out "Dreaming Neon Black", possibly one of the heaviest albums I've ever heard. Children Of Bodom is algo good, but I dislike the guitarrist, Alexi Laiho... his attitude against John Petrucci is unforgiven. Dream Theater being my favorite band of all time. |

Try out Nevermore.Their latest album This Godless Endeavor is incredible. And if you like Akerfeldt and Opeth check out Edge of Sanity, led by Dan Swano.Their album Crimson is a masterpiece. |
