I was 'tricked' into buying this LP today:

Completely amazed by this magnificent Roger Dean cover I bought this LP convinced that this just had to be prog. (the LP was completely wrapped in plastic so I couldn't get a proper look at it). Though it is somewhat evident that this LP is recorded in London in 1971, it's not really prog, it some sort of world-music with musicians from mainly Africa and the Caribbean. Osibisa is for me a totally new aquaintance, and I would like to hear what prog people think about this ensemble.

This is one of the first attempts to combine ethnic music and Rock. Osibisa were an important innovator and definitely Prog in the proper (wide) meaning of the term.

Their forst 3 / 4 albums were excellent, leter on (after losing the key members) it became a bit samey...

Don't dismiss the album - a worthy addition to your collection - in the worst case enjoy the cover

I dont know anything about them but thats the best Roger Dean cover I've ever seen!!
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

The second album is just as nice DEAN ARTWORK INVOLVING THE SAME RED FLYING ELEPHANTS!

 

However, Osibisa if you listen to it is actually an excellent blend of world/ethnic rock fusion.  Our friend Ivan would like to include them (which for the first three album I fully support him) but the rest of their discography is much less interesting.

I bought that album a few years back, purely because of the artwork. I bought the vinyl for about £2.00 so I was prepared to be dissapointed by the music and just pleased to have acquired some more Dean artwork.

Luckily, I did like the music too. It's funky, unusual and quite rock in places.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Discovered and saw them and bought the first 2 albums back in the 1970's.They were totally new then because Worls Music was not even a concept to anybody (Apart from the late great John Peel).
I loved them then and still do and in mixing the styles that they did were of course truly progressive

I believe they were sokme kind of late Psychedelia blended with Afro Funk, their first two albums and probably Heads are more than Prog related.
