Since I would say that a lot of prog lovers have a certain sophistication and refined taste when it comes to music, I'm curious as to what type of brews you guys enjoy. Personally, I enjoy a good IPA, Oatmeal Stout, or Belgian Strong Ale. Some of my favorites are

- Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
- Victory HopDevil IPA
- McLausan St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout
- Fuller's London Porter
- Chimay

But I can't drink any of those very often...I live in the southeast USA and we don't get any good beer down here. So I'm envious of those of you living in Belgium, Germany, or the Pacific Northwest corner of the USA.

Oh and sorry if this has been discussed before, I'm a noob.

Many progheads embrace the Hedonian approach which includes a good beer:

Rocherfort 10/Carolus D'Or Classic/La Chouffe/Gulpener Korenwolf/Grimbergen Optivo Bruno/Liefmans Kriek/Gerardus Dubbel, I am sure Sean Trane will join this topic with some very personal additions, CHEERS!

Acebad, most of you rbeers are unknown to me except Fuller's and of course the Belgian Trappist Chimay, the blue or red one?

Oatmeal Stout is excellent.  I also like beers like Hoegaarden (in summer mainly), Orval, Chimay Blue and White (the Red's okay but a bit overdone), Westmalle Triple, Piraat Ale, Czechvar (the REAL Bud), Golden Pheasant, and Harp.

Having a Tuborg Gold right now, so I'm slumming a bit    It's not a bad beer but a little watery and doesn't quite stack up against the Belgians.

Has been done before but thats ok.

Of all the beers I have tried, the one I always come back to now for its consistency and clear refreshing aftertaste is Crown Lager. Cascade Premium is a good international quality beer as well.

Nope , you got there before I did!!!

I'm a big fan of all the belgian heavy beers; leffe tripel (!!!!!!my favourite), Grimbergen tripel, Chimay, Petrus, Karmeliet and occasionally some winter/autumn beer like Hertog Jan Bock.

One thing to stay away from is Orval, that stuff tasted like a glass of dishwasherliquid.
Epic.

As I get older I'm become less keen on booze generally. I feel like I'm heading towards total abstinance. I'm getting fed up with the heartburn, the headaches, the depression. My capacity for alcohol is not great either, four pints and I'm pretty drunk, anymore and I'm sick..

In the past my fave beers have been:

Guinness
Fullers London Pride
Abbot Ale
HSB

I used to drink Lager in my teens and early 20's. I wasn't fussy, I went off it at about 25 when I decided it all tasted like p!ss and made me feel like death...

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Courage Directors (my fave)

Youngs Winter Warmer (very nice at the moment)

Arkellls 3B's (local Swindon brew)

Extra Cold Guinness (because its not cold enough )

Broadside (from Suffolk way) ..very strong (6.3%) ...but superb smooth ale

plus good old Bass

and for anyone watching 'Life On Mars' (BBC One Mondays 9.00) or who is over 45 ...''Watney's Party Seven''

Another long time teetotaller here. When I did drink I mainly went for anything which was wet and contained alcohol.
