Topic: Best lenght for epics Posted: February 01 2006 at 08:12 |
I like 8-9 min epics most.Maybe, because of Marillion and Genesis Most of modern prog bands consider that album cosisted of two 30-min epics is perfect to begin with... ,but the lenght of the track is not equal to the quality of the track.Well, that statement considers my poll too

What the difference? The most important thing is that it is good.

Nah, I find the most successful long songs are 7-10. There are many over this length which are fab (Echoes, Awaken etc) but much prefer Starship Trooper, Heart of the Sunrise etc. The Classic Yes compilation proves this without doubt, all the songs on that come in under 10 minutes and there isn't a dud on there.

7-10 isnt long enough to be considerd an epic really. It doesnt matter to me as long as the song is good.

No matter the lenght, i love 9 minutes epics like La Villa Strangiato, and 16 minutes like Dogs and 20 to 25 minutes like Gates of Delirium and 60 minutes like Amarok, if that epic can take us to another world, then is a great epic, no matter how many minutes ..

It doesn't matter, as long as it is consistent, and bearing good material.

Sure, it could be. Essentially, an epic is a long narrative or story. If a band can cram a relatively long story with some powerful music into a 7-10 minute period, it could be considered an epic, though I don't think it would be a frequent occurance.

Length doesn't really matter to me, but if I had to choose I would pick 15-25 minutes.
A lot of my faves fall into that range.

25 to 30 minutes. It is a perfect time to try to learn all the secret the song has.
It also lets the artist to have more variation and a wide range for experimentation.
