I'd say Lateralus, there's some great matierial. Lateralus is more of a defined album that Aenima was. With Aenima Tool used many ideas that they used of Lateralus, but on Lateralus all of those great ideas found better expression. The music is more complex and the guitars fill more holes on Lateralus.

Lateralus,a progressive metal masterpiece.
Aenima has some pieces on the album that I don't care for, like [*]Ions,Message to Harry Manback.

UNDERTOW!

I picked" Undertow". Alll the later stuff sounds like an extension of that album and has kind of a sameness to it; to my ears they never did top it. "Opiate" is damn good also.

Well i recently got Lateralus and literally the music is OUTRAGEOUS each and every member does his own part. In my opinion one of the best rhythm prog metal cds i've ever owned.

I like Tool , but I think that for may taste Tool have a few areas of concern , mostly the lack of guitar solos then there is the very formulated approach they take that makes tool for me far to predictable , then theres the last problem many of the tool songs sound alike to me , its a case of heard one tool CD heard em all. Not being a true fan I didn`t vote
