Let's see your Curriculum Vitae.
I recently saw a movie of some japanese guy playing all three voices of the original Mario-music, he also replicated various in-game sounds(Jump, pick up coins, beat the crap out of the Enemy, und so weiter)here and there. If only he'd use his powers for good.

Video game music rules! My mate has a band that primarilly plays video game music covers! LOL I like to noodle around on my guitar with bits and bobs of Video gmae music beacuse its fun and is easy to play on the guitar. Hay even Dragonforce use it in their albums especailly their new album 'Inhuman Rampage' its full of video game music or video game-esque music.

No they didn't. But John Petrucci wrote and performed the ending credits music for a Sega Saturn game called Necronomicon!

Yeah, it's called Homeworld, it's like Warcraft in space and 3D (this was pre-Starcraft I believe).  The song in question?  Homeworld (The Ladder).  Certain editions of The Ladder CD contained a demo for the game.

I agree with The Black Mages saying. They sound pretty good, quite different from what is comonly heard. Actually some J-Rock have kind of a progressive touch, like Malice Mizer, for example.

In general, there are many videogames, specially RPGs with good soundtracks, usually with lots of orchestral elements. I'm also a fan of videogames music as well and I don't think that is particulary bad

Bowie did some stuff on the Nomad Soul, which was unfortuantely great music on a turkey of a game! At one stage if you manage to get a ticket to a certain club, a cyber-Bowie performs live as a bonus.

Yeah, I've always thought that, too. Steve Vai did some of the music for the game (pretty much any time you hear an electric guitar, that's him), so that would explain it a bit.

Yeah, one of the things Herman Li was saying about the new album was that they made a lot of video game noises with thier guitars. I've only heard a couple of songs, but the "going down a tube" noise from the Mario games was cool .

even the music in the calssic mario games are proggy!
I was watching some G4 (videogame channel) and I noticed that alot of the videogame composers where influenced by progressive rock.

The Opening of Watcher of the Skies by Genesis really reminds me of the song playing in Final Fantasy 9 when you get to fly the invincible.

For some reason, I actually think that the song was borrow from watcher of the skies, cuz it has the same melody as i remember it. If i can only find it on the net i could make another comparison, cuz i havent owned my playstation for a while.

You're right!! You can find midis at http://www.vgmusic.com (it's really useful when making comparisons!)

Ok, here's my list...:

Focus-Janis =>"At the South Gate Border", from Final Fantasy IX.

Focus-Neurotika =>Sounds like a mix between "Clash on the Big Bridge" (the original, not the Black Mages version), from FFV, and "Still More Fighting", from VII.

Focus-Elspeth Of Nottingham => "Kids Run Through the City Corner" (FFVI).

Focus-Anonymus II => It reminds me of "Driver, you are the Wheelman".

ELP-Toccata => Sometimes, it sounds like the music from the Lifa Tree from FFIX.

ELP-Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression and ELP-Trilogy => Some parts sound a lot like "Run!" from FFIX.

ELP-Fanfare for the Common Man => "Walking the Snowy Mountains" from FFV.

The Enid-Humouresque => "Hunter's Chance" (the original version) from FFIX.

Genesis-Watcher of the Skies => "The Evil Mist's Rebirth" from FFIX.

"Crazy Motorcycle", "The Birth of a God" (from FFVII) and "Maybe I'm a Lion" (from FFVIII) sound like Deep Purple songs.

"JENOVA" (both the original and the Black Mages version) reminds me of the Blade Runner music (by Vangelis).

Vangelis-Conquest of Paradise => "Terra's theme" from FFVI. They use the sequence of "La Folia", wich also appears on "Vamo' Alla Flamenco","Black Mages Village" and "Limited Time", from FFIX.

Pink Floyd-Is There Anybody Out There? => "Succession of Witches", "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec" and "The Extreme", from FFVIII (Uematsu uses this sequence A LOT, it also appears on other FF games).

Final Fantasy battle music sounds A LOT like "The battle of Evermore", by Led Zeppelin.

Monkey Island 2 music reminds me of "Being for the Benefit of Mr.Kite!" from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Ok, enough for today (I'm sure I knew some more)...

I'll be back.

I have a ska/jazz cover of the tetris song that is supposed to be played by Mr. Bungle but I have searched on the web for information confirming that and I can't find it anywhere, if anyone knows about it please tell me. Anyways this song is really cool very jazzy and proggy with a really nice sax solo.

NERDS

Just kidding Im just like all of you guys   because video games are cool (well, some times they are adictive, but Im not a video games adict).

A lot of songs of ELP remain me some video games music of the NES or SNES, the instrumental part of Metropolis Pt1 sounds like Megaman.

The Castlevania soundtrack is very progy.

When i listen prog some friends ask me if that is a video game song or someting like that.

I got another couple guys...

The beginning synth lines of Tank by ELP remind me of Zelda boss music.

The Intro to Lost by VdGG reminds me of some music from A Link to the Past... don't remember which... probably the dark town or something.

The Sherrif (ELP's Trilogy)-Hill Zone in Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
Benny The Bouncer (ELP's BSS)-sounds like anything out of Super Mario Bros.
Toccata (ELP's BSS)- Starfox 64

The music in The Old Sonic Games owned. Anybody know of any groups
who have similar sounding material?
