Fragile does it for me, could do without the "solo" pieces but the remaining songs are great.

Drama is my favorite and here's why:

Even if all the other tracks sucked (which they don't), Machine Messiah by itself makes the album the best. Machine Messiah is the best prog metal song ever.

No offence taken.

I have all the stuff he did with Yes and Crimson, but I never liked his style much so didn't venture into his other stuff.  Perhaps I am missing something?  I'm a drummer myself you see, and I thought he stifled Yes.  That said, I thought his drumming with Crimson was much better and definitely more suited to their jagged time-hopping style (if thats the phrase) - especially on Red, which was excellent.  White gave Yes a new dimension - Close To The Edge on Yessongs is just monumental.  On the album, it drags, and Bruford (and probably Offord) is to blame.

My opinion of course.

I'm with you on this one wrath. I, too am a drummer and hold the same opinion. Whether bruford is a better drummer is definitly debatable, but white was much better for Yes. Bruford's overt jazz tendancies (see roundabout and everything else on Fragil) lacked the conviction of Palmer and Collins. Listen to ROundabout it sounds like he is playing on the side of the drums. He has been quoted as saying the drums were down in the mix, but I think it was more of what he played, that was very much in the background. I also agree that his rockier stuff with crimson was really good. White has (had) more energy and it could definitly be felt in Relayer, Drama even 90125 etc. Bruford was just to jazzy back then. This seems to be a drummers perspective though. Singers, Guitar, Bass etc don't seem to see it. Maybe it's because we want ot be out front more?

The songs are excellent, and a cool change from normal yes. I wish they would perform some of the songs from
that album live with Jonny-boy.

Apparently, the UK audiences were somewhat vocal in their dislike of Trevor Horne as the lead singer. As Steve Howe put it 'Some members of the crowd were brutal to say the least'.

I quite like the album and I really feel for the two poor buggers who were thrown into the deep end but really, Yes without John Anderson is like...well Genesis without Phil Collins

Now this is contraversial album!!

But, I agree there are good songs on here. Machine Messiah, Does it really happen and Tempus Fugit are my favourites. I think Trevor Horns voice is not a patch on Jons, and is in some songs totally unsuitable, but I never felt that bad towards him, because I liked The Buggles

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I am torn between Close To The Edge And Relayer, both albums totally define prog, they are masterpieces , Perfect!. I'm not so keen on the 80's Yes.. Yes includes the marvillous vocals of  Mr.Jon.Anderson, no other, its not Yes for me.

'Fragile'

Just voted what first came to mind. I also adore 'Yes Album', 'CTTE', 'Relayer' and 'GFTO'. The album I dislike most is 'Open Your Eyes'.

'TFTO' never quite did it for me. It has some great moments, but also overlong boring parts which just seem to be there to stretch the songs to side-lenghth pieces just for the sake of it.

Just my opinion.

To my opinion UNION is really very good album, especially the tracks with Howe on guitar. But there are two tracks I hardly stand with - Saving My Heart and Miracle Of Life - they destroys the "spirit" of this album...

favorite..... easy.

The Yes Album.  Obviously, probably  not the best, but I will never and have never got tired of listening to that album.  Yours Is No Disgrace will be played at my funeral hahahahha.  That's the song that got me hooked on Yes (and Chris Squire)

I don't see the point in resurrecting this thread after more than 12 months. You can tell what the most popular Yes album is by looking at the PA Top 100.

I would order the Yes studio albums

1. Close To The Edge   6/5 This album cannot be compared to anything else, it's just magnific and belongs in another catagory all by itself.

2: Going For The One  5/5 (Awaken!!)

3: Relayer 4.5/5

4: Fragile, The Yes Album, Tales, and Talk 4/5
