Are their any Brits in the forum who were into Brit prog in it s hey day, c. 1968-1975?

Yep, about '74 I started to get these strange urges to listen to prog at the tender age of 13

Me too, got into prog when I saw Pink Floyd at Blackpool Empire Ballroom in Feb. 1967.

My first prog gig was Genesis at Stafford Bingley Hall in 1976, when I was 14. I had been listening to prog (and much else besides) for a couple of years by then.

Just about - I bought Genesis Live when it first came out. I also got into ELP and Yes around then, but didn't discover a lot of the other bands (Tull, Gentle Giant, VdGG etc) until much later.

I wasn't old enough to go to gigs then but I did see Genesis in 1976 (with Collins). I have 2 older sisters who used to go and see Caravan at Ewell Tech (supporting Black Sabbath, no less).

Selling it on vinyl as Saturday job in a home counties branch of W H Smith from 1966 until 1971; responsible for introducing the Progressive Music section in the shop in 1967. Getting to see a lot of the British blues boom bands - many forgotten, e.g. anybody remember Spirit Of John Morgan, Timebox - during this period at Toby Jug Tolworth (also saw PG's Fleetwood Mac with John Mayall as guest for half a crown, both  LZ  & KC on their separate first UK tours, Jeff Beck with a now an allstar line-up, Edgar Broughton, Chicken Shack, etc. etc.), Kingston Poly (Yes, Quintessence but curse myself for not seeing Cream for half a crown), RAH (saw Soft Machine's pop proms, Deep Purple, Chicago, etc.) but at the time also got to see a performance at the Royal Festival Hall of Carmina Burana*  before Carl Orff's choral work took off in the UK.  

 

In passing, anybody come across the former Doors' Ray Mazerak's (sp) rock interpretation of Carmina Burana, a real stinker.

You lucky b***er Mr Heath. I know the Toby Jug well, but only for a quick pint after a spot of ten pin bowling. If I remember correctly, Jethro Tull, Free and Led Zeppelin all played there. Also I believe Genesis played at Kingston Poly.
Sadly all before my time.
