Topic: Dream Theaters - Train Of Thought Posted: January 22 2006 at 17:08 |
Hi!
I have almost two years trying to find a similar album to Dream
Theater's - Train Of Thought, you know, with superb and heavy
musicianship, long songs, tight compositions.
Any ideas?

Progressive music, a kind of life.

Generally, the bands that play the kind of material on that album are nowhere near that good. There may be a handful of prog-metal bands that will satisfy the criteria (Symphony X as an example), but none of them are going to sound like Train of Thought.

Metallica-...And Justice For All
Megadeth-Rust In Peace
These are the two albums that come to mind most often for me when I listen to ToT. Not necessarily "prog metal", but those two albums definitely have a "progressive-ism" to them. And they both fit the description you gave.

Those are nowhere near the degree of complexity and technicality that is Train of Thought

If you like Train of Thought then there's not much I can do for you except recommend therapy.
2nd rate Metallica. That may be generous.
Images and Words is a lot better because they don't try to be too heavy.

I agree,
Try 'Master Of Puppets' by Metallica
or '..and justice for all' you'll even find 'Blackened' on that...then the song 'Endless sacrifice' will suddenly sound familiar to you!! And 'Orion'...humms ounds familiar too!!
