For me Pain of Salvation, fantastic emotional and original music!

Yet another hard poll

But deep inside I'm pretty sure I'd take Mr Gildenlow over Mr Akerfeldt...

Daniel Gildenlow is so amazing, as a musician (instrument) and musician (singer) AND of course as a song-writer!

Opeth is a MUCH more original band.  They overall sound and talent that emerges from Opeth are unlike any other band around today, except the Mars Volta.

I can't really agree with that. Opeth reminds me of a Porcupine Tree/Death Metal blend with some exceptions.
Pain of Salvation has a far more unique musical style and ideas.

Opeth great but they don't have the emotion, originality or diversity of PoS

He's quite a good guitarist... Lots of feeling in his play, but many are just better then him. But when it comes to composing, he is totally awesome innovative and brilliant...

And IMO he is THE greatest modern singer around... He's diverse, versatile, theatrical and has an ENORMOUS scale/range!

PoS (or Gildenlow) seem to have great emotion and confidence in their music. They also have great originality and an interesting extremeness in their music, which helps to create a wide-ranged diversity in their music. Opeth certainly does not have this. They also do not have the musical complexity of PoS. However, Opeth does have very thick and full music, and composes very unique music. Akerfeldt is a great musician, who can only be beaten by someone liie... say... Gildenlow. Still, because of the recognizable feel and captivating power of Opeth, I would vote Opeth. The reason I will not is because of A) sudden release of singles and videos (not necessarily evil, but questionable in the case of Opeth) B) Ghost Reveries sounding a little more stiff and "robotic" than their other works (less natural I suppose) and C) The awesome tour (Opeth with Dark Tranquility and Devin Townsend) being wrapped up with the addition of DEVILE DRIVER and excluding Devin Townsend and Dark Tranquility being knocked down to opener.
PoS is great... wonderful... amazing. I have no problem voting for them.

I'll go with POS. However, Opeth-Morningrise is one of the best albums ever IMO...

Opeth for me. I love them both though (well, at least The Perfect Element as it's the only POS I own).

Maybe if you've only heard the Steve Wilson-produced Opeth albums, but they're hardly the pinnacle of the band's quality anyways...

I'd choose Opeth of the two. I absolutely love a lot of PoS's stuff, but I also dislike a lot of it, so Opeth is an easy choice for me.

Pain Of Salvation's music is so much deeper, and mature, of course.
Still, they're two of my favorite prog bands.
Progressive music, a kind of life.
