Hello. I think many of you especially metal fans heard rhapsody.. i really like them but i dont they they are trua prog metal... power/speed metal i agree with that... they are a bit proggy of course but far from DT or any true prog metal band. concept albums do not make music progressive... theyre a great band anyway

i really like their orchestration, but since they use lots of synthetizers, they suck when live performing....their best record is dawn of victory, followed closely by legendary tales...

ΙΜΟ they copy themselves from another record to another... their last one though sounds interesting... I never really liked them... I can't stand this type of speed/power metal anymore I would rather listen to old Helloween or Blind guardian |

i dont really like helloween but blind guardian..mmmm.... their latest works should be concidered prog metal i suppose. demons and wizards for instance... that not BG but whatever...there are a lot of influences by BG there...hansi is a genious though guitar riffs in demons and wizards are more like iced earth which i dont like a lot but its cool anyway. yeah rhapsody keep repeating themselves. and their latest work (syphony 2) is their best work. it is most dramatic, most completed... at lest thats what i think... and that their proggiest work IMO |

This message is in the wrong section! It should be in the prog music lounge as Rhapsody are already in Prog Archives: http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAN D.asp?band_id=1268 Normally people post in the prog music lounge instead of another section. This is the first time I've seen it the other way round. So Rhapsody are here and that means they must be prog ... but I don't like them. The idea of mixing orchestras with metal is great but I don't think Rhapsody do it very well. They use too many choirs. |

no, that does not mean that IMO there are many bands that should not be here IMO e.g. The Gathering, Nightwish |

^ what's your beef with the Gathering? They are not even remotely similar to Rhapsody or Nightwish.

^ good to know that you like The Gathering ... but I had hoped that you explain why you don't think they're progressive.

well they can be called "progressive" in terms of exploring different music paths, but I always thought of them as atmospheric metal can't see any technical parts or sth in their music that makes me think of them as progressive IMO one of the best and most important bands in atmospheric metal (some tend to classify them as atmospheric/gothic metal - of course until Nighttime birds) Edited by aapatsos |

A lot of the Post Rock bands could also be described as "Atmospheric Rock". BTW: Mandylion and Nighttime Birds are not as their masterpiece How to Measure a Planet, or Souvenirs. |

[/QUOTE] anyway, I'm not very familiar with the term Post Rock, I would consider them atmspheric metal and Mandylion and N.birds are my favourites, but every record with Anneke is at least very good and experimental. Maybe thats why they are considered prog. I would say the same for Anathema, not prog - mostly atmospheric metal in my ears, although their Floyd influences are obvious. |
