I spend pretty much all of my extra income on prog.  I guess I spend approximately $250.00 a month on prog CD's and DVD's.  I also am into hi fi gear and spend a considerable amount on my sound systems.  This is just so I can better enjoy my prog collection.  I guess I'm pretty obsessed with this, but that's OK.  Are any of you finding you'd rather buy some prog CD's than go to a fancy restaurant or even on vacation?  I also spend several hundred a year on prog concerts.  I rarely listen to any other forms of music.  I find today's mainstream to be disgusting.  If I averaged it all out, I spend about $350 to $400 a month on prog and prog related items.  How about you?

Well, I too would rather spend money on CDs than on fancy restaurants and the sort. Such things are only temporary pleasures, where as the value of music is life-long. Of course, I love going out on occasion, but I would never squander more than a certain amount in doing so. I like buying CDs in bulk, so I make a rather large payment on them at one time, but I will spend the next couple of months digesting them, while still rotating my old albums in. So my monthly average is reasonable because I will go a while without buying any CDs, unless there are new releases or rare deals I can get. I also spend quite a bit on my musical equipment. I play guitar and drums, so I have to invest in necessities, and some cool gadgets.

My parents, and some of my friends thinks I'm wasting my money when it comes to CDs because he thinks I will hardly listen to them, though my dad is also a musician, so he understands where I am coming from. While in an average case, that would be true, but I do nearly everything while listening to music, or I will listen to music and do nothing else. It is my passion, so I am always listening to music, writing music, or thinking about music.

There are some great non-prog bands out there that I enjoy, but most of what I listen to is prog.

There are other music forms outside prog that aren't mainstream either, you know

Who said there aren't?

I guess I don't spend that much on prog, as I don't get an allowance, but I'll be getting one from next week so it'll be something like 25 euros a month.

He didn't say it literally, but this comes pretty close, don't you think? :

I know.  I do like some classical music, folk music, heavy metal, jazz, and classic rock( though this too can be considered mainstream ), but I rarely listen to these types of music anymore.  I find I like prog better because it uses these influences to a greater whole.  I get bored pretty quickly with the "normal genres" for lack of a better word.  I think prog takes the best of these genres and incorporates it into a whole new genre.

I'd say about 200$ (canadian) a month.I'm progaholic.I don't listen to much other kinds of music either. With all the different prog sub genres, there's enough to satisfy my tastes.

I don't download but I do copy entire cd's  once in a while.Comes cheaper that way.Eitherway I purchase about 10-20 cd's a month.

I don't spend nearly enough on Prog.  Lately I'm down to less than 1 CD per month. Gotta remedy that.

I buy a few cd's each month I guess......... not all prog,
so it's hard to say on average how much prog I
spend my money on...........maybe not enough.........
but also maybe too much!
If I were to buy 20+ cd's a month, I would never really
spend time with each album, which for me, and i
think for prog is really important.
I usually have a long wish list, but thats ok, makes it
so much sweeter to wait sometimes!
i like to be able to get to know an album, and despite
workiing from home (LOUD STEREO) I still don't
think I could ever really appreciate such a huge
volume of music!

I like to go for quality over quantity!
