George Harrison. He was the only really outstanding musician and the songs he wrote stand out. I've never rated Lennon or McCartney.

I voted George Harrison, even though I had a dream that included John
Lennon this night. But Lennon's gonna get all the votes anyway.
Harrison's All Things Must Pass CD is -amazing- though. And almost all of the songs he wrote are Beatle classics.

Harry Georgeson - as he used this alias sometimes.
Although maybe not the most prolofic writer and was a bit of a late bloomer, his first song is Taxman on Revolver (I think , but not that sure ), he wrote them singlehandedly (which was not the case with Lennon-McCartney).
But the Beatles acquired an even greater stature once he wrote regularly. Here Comes The Sun, I Me Mine, Guitar Gently Weeps etc....... He really helped out and became a third wheel on which the band rested quite comfy>
also outside the Beatles: My Sweet Lord and Badge (Cream - goodbye)

Oh I can't do this one ...
George Harrison was a outstanding talent ... but he doesn't even belong in the more talented half of The Beatles, IMO ...
I can't and won't chose between two of the finest singer/songwriters of the 20th century ...

Maybe 'Taxman' was the first Beatles hit writen by Harrison.
But in fact, The Beatles had recorded other Harrison's songs before it:
- Don't bother me
- You like me too much
- I need you
- Think for yourself
- If I needed someone
The odd thing, according to several sources, is that the heavy 'Taxman' guitar solo that entered the records was done by Paul McCartney!!!

^ Correct, the "Taxman" solo is by McCartney. This solo is also featured (backwards) in "Tomorrow Never Knows") - free bit of useless information for you.
As much as I love Lennon, and he was more innovative than Macca, I've voted for Macca as the best overall songwriter, plus the best bass player, also good guitarist, piano player and drummer. Makes you sick really!
As for Ringo, he wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles (according to Lennon).

I voted also for Macca mainly because IMO he was the ex-beatle that got closer to prog during the 70s, specially in albums like "Ram" and "Band on the run".
However Ringo is probably the great prog-fan among the Fab4. His "All-Star Band" included names like Joe Walsh, Greg Lake and Roger Hodgson.
