I love Owner of a lonely heart and Still... you turn me on. Your own special way is more boring than cheesy, but it's ok |

Nothing wrong with a bit of cheese on a prog album, as long as it's not spread right to the edges!
The ultimate cheesy song just has to be Golf Girl, closely followed by The Dog, The Dog, He's At It Again (both by Caravan of course.) I also liked Nigel Planer's version of Golf Girl, on "Neil's Heavy Concept Album" - remember that? I used to work the night shift as a computer operator, and we tended to play music all night long. I remember putting a tape of Land of Grey & Pink on, and my colleague looked at me with sheer horror when Golf Girl started... Standing on a golf course, Dressed in PVC..." (if you've seen the Morecambe & Wise sketch with Andre Previn, it's that look Previn gives Morecambe when he's playing "all the wrong notes".) He was used to me playing prog rarities but that one really got him going! "What the HELL'S THAT???" he yelled... I don't care, I love it! It's THE cheese song, nothing else comes close! (Got to add a few lines from Neil's version) Standing on a golf course Drinking cups of tea, It started raining policemen And they arrested me... Edited by ElwoodHerring |

Well. I wasn't THAT serious I accept that people have different taste, but I have no chance of understanding that particular point of view. But.. anyway, I apologize for my incontrollable rage ! |

Some songs are just so cheesy they smack you in the face straight away! but GOLF GIRL! Not cheesy in the slightest. I mean where do you cringe with embarassment while that song is playing? |

The only time I cringe with embarrassment over a piece of music is when somebody plays something of mine from 25 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Land of G & P - I just enjoyed watching my colleague cringing when he heard those REALLY cheesy horns that start the album! |

I forgot to mention Camel - Breathless
I got to know this band a couple of months ago and the first record I've heard was The Snow Goose. I certainly love it! When I asked what other album he recommended me, the same person that introduced me TSG said "Breathless" I just can't hear it. It's soooo chessy and poppy, especially the first track. Strangely, at the same time, there is something that keeps me coming back to this album. I'm masochistic I have to hear that Golf Girl song ! |

I like Breathless. Good quality Camel - especially the track "Echoes" (Not the Floyd one, although that's good too)

This thread is WEIRD. Anyway, I don't think "Heart of the Sunrise" is cheesy at all. "Turn of the Century", though, stinks up the place like a a ton of Limburger. And let's not mention "More Fool Me". |

I strongly disagree. Turn of the Century is another example of Yes at their most symphonic and beautiful. Nothing cheesy whatsoever.. How do you guys define cheese ? You want cheese, listen to Wakeman's horrible synthsolo on Don't Kill The Whale |

Indeed; some of the answers here shock me. I thought 'Heart Of The Sunrise' was as good as it could ever get, particularly the intro, and 'Turn Of The Century' I also think is gorgeous. Undoubtedly though 'Arriving UFO' has the single cheesiest keyboard solo I've ever heard, and there's a song by Beggar's Opera called 'Silver Peacock Intro' which has a pretty corny mellotron intro and a 'you cannot be serious?' mystical narration intro..However, the rest of that album 'Waters Of Change' is pure class. Also, as much as I love Uriah Heep, I must say 'The Magician's Birthday' and 'Pilgrim', though I like them a lot, are quite cheesy as they are so overwrought at times. Personally, I think they peaked with 'Paradise The Spell' in terms of great epics (never found that cheesy at all) and future attempts, no matter how enjoyable, were exercises in bombast. Pendragon's album 'The Jewel' was rather corny to these ears; some love it, but it was one of the more derivative albums I've heard. I liked it on first listen but I grew to like it less the more I played it. I love 'Masquerade Overture' though... Genesis' 'Your Own Special Way' has a very corny electric piano solo that has no relevance to the rest of the song... Edited by salmacis |

Ahahaha, you are so right. I just listened to Arriving UFO and .. Oh my God. What on earth were Wakeman thinking ? It is actually painful to listen to. |
